CARA DELEVINGNE

Eccentric & Electric... ...A new take on feminism with Cara Delevingne... With an eccentric, hilarious, loving and fearless personality, Delevingne influences the people who look up to her. Therefore it was important to express her personality with the visual element of colour, mimicking the saturated vibrance that she presents for this collaboration. Delevingne’s meaning of Dior is “to dare, to dream, to think outside the box...” In the same way as Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s Creative Director, Delevingne promotes a strong vision of feminism, female empowerment and the idea of an active woman, which is reflected in her style. This resonates with the brand of Dior, so Delevingne holds a special influence for our consumers.

A Pop of Colour

WITH CARA DELEVINGNE AND DIOR

The effects of your personality are extended far beyond your personal preferences and hobbies ... A personality can be represented visually through colours. Dior believes colour plays an important part in representing someone, therefore this illustration has been created to show the colours that Dior sees in

their brand ambassador, Cara Delevingne. For an eccentric person like Delevingne herself, colour is a very important component in showing her identity. Delevingne has explored the use of colour to portray her personality through her choice of interiors in her excitingly colourful Los Angeles home.

Blue? WHY ARE YOU SO

“Blue is the symbol of power, beauty and spirituality [that] is employed for genderless outfits and to express differences” - Maria Grazia Chiuri Dior continues to use denim as a staple fabric throughout their collections simply because denim will never go out of style. Dior Denim will often maintain the blue tones as Maria Grazia Chiuri says that blue is a “symbol of power, beauty and spirituality [that] is employed for genderless outfits and to express differences.” So the blue

tones presented at Dior are not just about the physical attraction of the colour, but its emotional resonance that it encapsulates. Denim is used for the designs of handbags, jeans, halter neck tops, jackets, and it is through the luxe magic that Dior is able to turn it into a sophisticated and chic fashion statement.

Legacy CHRISTIAN DIOR & THE ARCHIVES Christian Dior was a French fashion designer, famous for his eponymous fashion house which has an important legacy that has revolutionised the fashion industry. Dior’s sense of simplicity and expert craftsmanship enabled him to begin the house of Dior, founded in 1946 in Paris. Dior’s debut haute couture collection was released in 1947, and was a significant milestone for the legacy of the house, altering the perceptions of post-war fashion. This collection dived into the archives, and developed a contemporary take on the Figure 8 silhouette. Taking inspiration from the slimming waist and exaggerated hem line, the Dior Denim Collection features a dress with similar characteristics. The ongoing archives of Dior are very important in maintaining the brand legacy and paying attention to Christian Dior’s incredible impact within the fashion industry.

A WORD FROM THE DESIGNER

Maria Grazia Chiuri woman and wants her designs to reflect the lives of those who wear them. She has a strong vision for the house of Dior and her underlying themes and values add interest and history into her designs, making them so spectacular. Chiuri’s focus on valuing the legacy of the brand and transforming it to fit a contemporary world is important, as she states herself “The Dior history can’t be just about something that happened 70 years ago,” because modern female women are remembering Dior for the iconic “We Should All Be Feminists” tee that echos Chiuri’s feminist inspiration.

Looking back nostalgically, the designers of Dior who took on the reins of the house after Christian’s death in 1957 have all made significant contributions to the legacy of the house and its ongoing success. In 2016, Maria Grazia Chiuri became the first female Creative Director of the house and has taken her intrinsic femininity to create everlasting and delicately beautiful designs. Fashion Editor Alexander Fury explains that “her gender affects the way she looks at every facet of the house, which is now not only feminine but female … It’s surrendering a new look for Dior.” Chiuri is fascinated by the modern
