As a creative designer, Charli Kuriel explores the intersection of textures, timeless forms and modern innovation with a fresh perspective. Spending the many years of her life in a coastal town, the laid back lifestyle draws a lot of inspiration into her designs. In particular, inspired by the feelings of nostalgia, where it is simply more than just looking back, but reinterpreting a memory or sentiment; playing into the whimsicality of a distant memory or sense of
imagination and seeing beauty in finer, delicate details.
Charli Kuriel aims to push the boundaries, exploring processes and innovative textures to separate herself from others. By consistently pushing the limits of her knowledge, she has constantly improved throughout her studies being able to grow and create things she would never have imagined possible.
CONCEPT STATEMENT
Sonance stems from the idea of trying to describe a dream to someone and it comes across as broken and disconnected.
Sonance is a collection where light, airy fabrications are used to create movement and a sense of unity. Delving into impressionist artworks by Claude Monet, where brushstrokes were done so in a rushed manner, creating movement and softness. In impressionist artworks, the way the light moves was of utmost importance. The tactile quality of materials being used within the collection adds these impressionsist like intricacies of texture, depth, visual interest as well as a sensory experience.
Sonance indulges into a softer, neutral colour palette inspired by the lightness of dreams. The colour palette is also a nod to feminism and purity.
In recent seasons, the term ‘boho-chic’ has become prominent in vocabulary. Leaning towards exploring 1970s bohemianism and hippie culture within the film Almost Famous and the show Daisy Jones and The Six. Motifs such as flowy silhouettes, textures, layering and merging comfort with romanticism are features all represented in Sonance. Bennie and The Jets by Elton John, a song which personally reminisces, is one which evokes movement and freedom within oneself.
Sonance enables the wearer to feel confident and pure. Filled with abstract silhouettes, formed in a way that creates a sense of balance, radiating the feeling of the freedom to move and dream in any way they desire
