Meliã, a leading European hotel developer, is designing a unique hotel concept that brings the essence of Europe to Australia. The goal is to create an immersive experience where Australian guests can enjoy authentic European culture, design & hospitality without leaving their own backyard. The design should blend European elegance & charm with local Australian elements to create a harmonious yet distinctive environment. Attention to detail, from materials to ambiance, should evoke the feeling of being in a European city while displaying the Australian coastline beauty. The hotel should appeal to both local travellers & international visitors seeking a taste of Europe within Australia. The project aims to set a new standard for cultural fusion in hospitality, combining comfort, style & a sense of place.

The Sorrento Hotel, located on the picturesque Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, is a unique blend of heritage & modern design. The building itself is heritage-listed, meaning its historic facade will remain untouched to preserve its original charm & character. However, attached to this classic structure is a newly developed extension that is set to be redesigned & expanded, bringing fresh life and functionality to the site. Perched on a small hill, the hotel offers stunning views overlooking the nearby beach, creating a serene & inviting atmosphere for visitors. Surrounding the hotel is a charming strip of boutique shops, adding to the local character & enhancing the overall experience for guests. The design & ambiance of the hotel embrace a Mediterranean aesthetic, reflecting a relaxed yet elegant vibe that fits perfectly with the coastal setting. This combination of old-world heritage and contemporary Mediterranean style makes the Sorrento Hotel a distinctive destination,

Concept

T he Arcadian is a boutique hotel nestled in the heart of Sorrento, where heritage charm meets modern innovation. This project honours the building’s rich history & architectural details while reimagining the space through a Mediterranean lens. The design was inspired by three distinct cultures, Greece, Italy & France & offers an immersive experience where guests choose their own European journey. Thoughtfully curated to transport visitors through authentic design, cuisine & atmosphere. This boutique hotel is designed to be a timeless sanctuary where every detail weaves together to create a harmonious, captivating environment within the beauty of Mediterranean materials blending with immense colour & unique patterns all celebrating heritage & culture in a contemporary spirit, inviting guests to savour the essence of Europe without leaving Australia.

T he colour palette chosen is bright & lively, inspired by the stunning hues of a Mediterranean European sunset. The main colours are Mediterranean Sandstone, beige, Parisian Blush, muted pink, Santorini Sky, blue & Amalfi Sunset, burnt orange, which come together beautifully to create a warm & inviting atmosphere. These colours complement each other perfectly, balancing energy & calmness, much like the natural transition of a sunset sky. Using this palette will bring brightness & a sense of joy to any space, making it feel fresh & uplifting. The boldness of the burnt orange adds warmth, the blue brings a cool, soothing contrast & the muted pink adds a gentle, playful touch. Altogether, these colours will give the interior a dynamic yet harmonious vibe, capturing the essence of Mediterranean beauty & light in a way that feels both modern & timeless.

materiality

T he materiality used in my project will consist of natural Mediterranean materials that evoke an authentic European feel while being eco-friendly. To capture the true essence of Mediterranean design, I will incorporate sandstone & terracotta as key elements, bringing in earthy tones & textures that reflect the region’s timeless charm. Rich colours & intricate patterns will be used throughout the space to add vibrancy and visual interest, creating an inviting & warm atmosphere. Brass accents will be strategically placed to introduce a subtle warmth and elegance, complementing the natural materials perfectly. This combination of textures, colours & finishes will work together to create a space that feels both genuine & welcoming, embodying the spirit of Mediterranean living. By carefully selecting these materials, the design will not only celebrate traditional aesthetics but also embrace sustainability, ensuring the project respects both cultural heritage and environmental responsibility. The overall effect will be a harmonious blend of rustic charm & refined sophistication that truly captures the Mediterranean lifestyle.

A FOUR SEASONS HOTEL

Perched on a rocky promontory high above the Ionian Sea, the iconic San Domenico Palace welcomes you to a 14th-century convent reimagined. Framed by the dramatic landscapes of Sicily’s east coast, the interior has a rich legacy in art not only within artwork itself but the timeless beauty that is portrayed in the interior design of the hotel. Throughout the hotel, you can feel the heritage it holds, with exposed stone sourced from the land beneath, pillars that portray incredible detail, and the everevolving culture within the walls, all coming together to create a perfectly detailed Mediterranean-style interior. The goal of the San Domenico Palace was to provide a visually engaging and emotionally inspiring link between the past, the present, and the future, immersing guests in an unforgettable journey through time and artistry.

The San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel, are committed to preserving and regenerating the environment and leaving a positive, enduring impact on our local community. The hotel has created there own Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) program, ‘Four Seasons for Good’. Their Four Seasons for Good program is centred around two pillars: Planet and People. Each pillar is supported by specific activities and objectives, with a close eye to how our efforts will contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Sustainability initiatives they have have implemented at all there properties being, environmental programs, energy, carbon and water reduction, waste reduction, sustainable food and beverage, community and Purchasing practices.

Inspiration from the timeless elegance of the San Domenico Palace, A Four Seasons Hotel, is significant in my personal design, I aspire to create an interior that tells an authentic story holding the beauty of mediterranean culture. From the exposed stone to the walls with many stories, I want to produce a timeless, detailed mediterranean design with a modern blend, creating unique aura.Further more I am inspired by the Four Seasons Hotel’s commitment to sustainability and community impact, and plan to integrate their program into my hotel’s operations to contribute positively to the environment and the local community. My goal, like that of San Domenico Palace, is to create an interior that bridges the past, present, and future together and leave guests immersed in the feeling they have traveled the true mediterranean, while only being in there city.

T he Arcadian Hotel is a Mediterranean-inspired boutique hotel located on the beautiful Mornington Peninsula in Sorrento. It’s designed to offer Australians a unique European experience without the need to fly overseas, a true home away from home. The hotel’s concept is built around three distinct cultural experiences, Greek, Italian & French. When guests book their stay, they choose one of these immersive packages, which influences everything from the room aesthetics to the accompanying restaurant & overall atmosphere. Whether you stay for a short three-day getaway or up to a week, the Arcadian Hotel offers a relaxing, resort-like vibe in a boutique setting. The design is colourful & authentic, using materials that reflect Mediterranean charm while creating a cozy, inviting space. The hotel primarily targets adults & couples, but also caters for families, it’s also perfect for group getaways, whether it’s a girls weekend, a guys getaway, just a peaceful escape. The whole experience is about simplicity, relaxation & enjoying the vibrant culture & warmth of the Mediterranean, right here in Australia.
