CONCEPT. ‘Rigor’ came to life from the rigorous yet Seemingly collected world of the ballet analysing the way to complete a graceful position requires the most strength and rigor to complete. (Quora Contributor, 2014) This flourished into understanding the rigorous behavior of elite world of equestrian riding.

Committing to this throughout this Concept the exploration of line, form and discipline are key and work cohesively together all relating to rigorous basis of concept. These three words bring to life what can be seen in the ballet. Connecting the Ballet dancers attire to the world of the audience comes to life from the attire sported in the 19th century Reinventing the structure of the Traditional white tie outfit of a black tuxedo with tails that was worn to the ballet and opera (English National Opera, ND). Brining to life an all black colour palette complements the world of Ballet seamlessly with the garments Evolving from the mens training attire being all black fetching from the New York academy of ballets (New York Academy of Ballet, ND) requirements for training dancers. The pieces that are formated within this Concept are imagined to be worn with a Dandy look in mind pulling from the repertoire of the feminine wardrobe these pieces commit to traditional menswear with a flare of Androgyny. Sitting in the age range of 18-24. Imagined living in New York and training with Julliard in the art of ballet.

Colour Palette

Rigor’s colour of all black evolved from the roots of the collection being the ballet. The entirety of the collection is black paying homage to the rehearsal blacks worn by ballet dancers during rehearsal. The use of black also emits the quality of being unyielding celebrating the fact it will forever be permanent.

The black texture applique is formulated from 6 meters of Black knotted cotton and wool denim cut into 5cm strips then hand knotted together perpetuating the concept Rigor. The texture is then sewn onto the garment meticulously by hand.
