Client Client: Chef Alex Prichard + Jeffrey Simpson (Co-Investors) The Client is chef Alex Prichard, the head chef at Icebergs Dining Room and Bar in South Bondi. He recently joined forces with real estate mogul Jeffrey Simpson who opened a vacation experience, ‘Dovecote’ on the state’s South Coast in Gerringong. The 150 acre property, set on grassy farmland on the Werri Beach cliff, consists of two holiday rentals with a secluded, seasonal restaurant experience. Chef Prichard is in charge of the restaurant experience.

Alex Prichard is known for his love of fresh, organic ingredients which he believes can be celebrated through simplicity, “Let the produce speak for itself... Spend the time sourcing incredible ingredients and then cook with minimal fuss.’’ He often enjoys plating up his dishes on unique crockery from handcrafted ceramics to old-school op shop finds in order to set the vibe and create a talking point.

Brief Project Type: Short Term Holiday Rental with Seasonal Restaurant Chef Alex Prichard is looking to go in with Jeffrey Simpson and expand his operations to create another vacation/dining experience on the North Coast of Australia in Queensland, linked to ‘Dovecote’ in Gerringong. It will be a similar setup, consisting of a main house and studio available to rent for short term stay, seasonally transformed into a luxury dining experience as part of their ‘Dine in Design’ series. The decor will be maximalist and colourful as opposed to the original location, which focuses on the architectural elements of the homes. He wishes to mimic his philosophy as a chef through this design, keeping things simple when needed yet exciting when possible. This will be possible by maintaining the existing sandstone architecture and complimenting it through eclectic styling much like philosophy towards plating his dishes.

Site Address: 55 Foley Road, Tanawha, QLD, 4556 Lot Number: 1RP894902 Council: Sunshine Coast Regional Council This 1 hectare property features 8 bedrooms and an astounding 6 bathrooms with 2 powderooms.

It is a mediterranean style house with French provincial inspiration and has been aptly named ‘La Tourelle’ or ‘The Little Tower’ in French for its castle-like floor plan. Stonemason, Angel Buj-Casanoves handcrafted this estate from sandstone, featuring granite and a rare white quartz. It is a uniquely designed house featuring an untraditional layout with the entrance from the middle level and multiple small, secluded levels branching off of the ‘top’ floor. This elevated coastal retreat boasts ocean views and comes with everything needed to escape the city and become immersed in nature including a vegetable garden, chook pen, three spring water dams, a fire pit, an established passionfruit and grape vines and a 12m lap pool. There is space for three cars to park securely and more outdoor parking.

The property runs on solar power and has the capacity to store 90 000 litres of rain water.

The suburb of Tanawha itself is located on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, 15 minutes from Mooloolaba. Within a km there is access to Maroochydore Botanical Gardens and Tanawha Golf Course and further 5 min drive will take you to the Bruce Hwy and many shops/cafes.

Concept La Tourelle is a luxury holiday escape, partaking in the ‘Dine in Design’ series hosted by Chef Alex Prichard. Inspired by LLoyd Mumm and the Starlight Roof Orchestra’s ‘Pink Champagne for Dancing’ record, the essence of this design encapsulates colour to evoke excitement.

Colour to create joy and a sense of escapism - essential to a good holiday and hence a good holiday home. The Mediterranean carcass paired with vintage, eclectic interiors, mimicking the setting for a luxury 60’s Hollywood dinner party.

La Tourelle consists of a three level main residence with two additional levels of ‘tower’ and a main studio. The entryway is centred on the second level, the same level as the kitchen/dining space - allowing all of the public area of the house to be isolated to the entry level. The first (lower) level will be primarily guest bedrooms and a small cocktail lounge area as well as garage and laundry space.

The third (upper) level consists of the master residence as well as an additional bedroom and outside entertainment area which also provides access to the tower viewing areas.

The colour palette will feature pops of bright blues, vivid pinks and natural greens contrasted with heavily textured, neutral and natural materials. Block colour and pattern will highlight and distinguish the strong architectural forms in the interiors including the ceiling beams, stone arches, curved walls and fireplace.
