The City of Whitehorse Band presents

Brass Showcase The City of Whitehorse Band are proud to present their very popular winter concert. The presentation will include music from shows, popular songs and of course some stirring brass band classics. Their guest vocalist will be Mary-Louise Hatch supported by Graham Taylor on piano, Ben Robertson on double bass and Ron Sandilands on drums.

and the Winner is…

Which television reality show gave rise to the best group performance? Was it ‘Renovated X-Voice’ or perhaps ‘Dancing the Block with a Masterchef’? Walk the red carpet and celebrate the best of the best in this theatrical experience presented by the Scouts and Guides of the Mount Dandenong Region. Now in its 51st year, Showtime continues to provide an opportunity for youth to create and perform an original piece of theatre incorporating both original and contemporary musical and comedic pieces.

Kind Hearts & Coronets (classic film 1949)

Louis D'Ascoyne Mazzini's mother's account of how her titled family shunned her when she eloped with an Italian opera singer causes a simmering resentment in him. As the distant poor relative of the Duke of D'Ascoyne, Louis plots to inherit the title by whatever means possible! Starring Alec Guinness in multiple roles, Kind Hearts and Coronets is a very clever, hilarious comedy.

Australia Day The country town of Coriole is getting ready for Australia Day – a time to crack open a frothy, stick a snag on the barbie and celebrate what it means to be a true blue Aussie. With everyone wanting a piece of the party pie, it’s proving hard yakka to work out what an Aussie celebration should look like. Will the day be fair dinkum after all or are there too many roos loose in the community hall? Nothing is sacred as the national identity is put through the ringer in this thoroughly modern ripper of a comedy, written and directed by acclaimed satirist Jonathan Biggins.

Peter and the Wolf Peter and the Wolf captures children’s imaginations and explores the intricacies of friendship between Bird, Cat, Peter and Duck. These characters are all cleverly portrayed with the remaining characters of Grandfather, Wolf and the Hunters adding further interest and drama.

The accompanying ballet is ‘Colours’, which celebrates diversity of musical styles and is set to a variety of folkloric tunes. The beauty of rainbow colours and the fun of the colour spectrum are introduced in this lively and entertaining ballet.

Master Class Inspired by Maria Callas’ famous visit to New York’s Juilliard School and starring Maria Mercedes, Master Class is an insightful look into the life of opera’s most beloved and controversial diva. At the time, Callas’ singing career on the world’s great stages had drawn to a close; her voice a shadow of its former glory. Master Class sees Callas prod and provoke her students in a searing, funny and touching depiction of a woman who knows what it takes to walk the high wire and the sacrifices required to attain the dream. Years later, Callas’ story as a woman forced to choose between professional power and a personal life remains as relevant as ever.

Dennis Smith presents

Diana Trask in Concert After her successful appearance in 2013, Australia’s international singing star Diana Trask returns to the Whitehorse Centre for a special matinee performance. Born in Melbourne, Diana began singing at dance venues and on television shows.

After touring Australia in 1959 with Frank Sinatra she became a major recording star in the US and was a regular on the hit television series Sing Along With Mitch. Diana will be singing all her hits including Oh Boy and her special guest will be Reg Gorman – star of The Sullivans TV series.

Cranky Bear School Holiday Entertainment Flamboyant friends Zebra, Lion and Moose each think they know how to solve the Bear’s crankiness but their shenanigans just make him even crankier! It takes a humble and empathetic Sheep with an open heart and listening ear to solve the Bear’s woes. Adapted from the best-selling book The Very Cranky Bear, this is a rollicking cabaret-style show packed with laughter, music and mayhem.

The Boy From Oz The first Australian musical to conquer Broadway, The Boy From Oz was a huge success in Australia with multi-award winner Todd McKenney as legendary singer/ songwriter Peter Allen. The Caddy (classic film 1953) Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis tee up for another round of side-splitting insanity in this classic comic outing. Talented player Harvey Miller Jr (Lewis) has one major handicap - his shyness in front of crowds; enter his suave caddy (Martin) who coaches Harvey during a huge pro tournament in one of the duo’s finest films.

Grease Rydell High’s senior class of 1959: ducktailed, hot-rodding ‘Burger Palace’ boys and their gumsnapping, hip-shaking ‘pink ladies’ in bobby sox and pedal pushers, evoke the look and sound of the 1950s in this rollicking musical.

Head ‘greaser’ Danny and new (good) girl Sandy attempt to relive the high romance of their ‘Summer Nights’ as the rest of the gang sing and dance their way through songs such as Greased Lightnin’, It’s Raining On Prom Night and Alone At The Drivein Movie; music that became the soundtrack of a generation.
