Up-and-coming musician ‘Grew Up Home’ BY SARA MARIE MOORE VADNAIS HEIGHTS EDITOR
WHITE BEAR LAKE — Jake Nelson's release of his first single, “Grew Up Home,” along with a music video shot around town has cast the 2007 White Bear Lake Area High School alum in the local spotlight. The music video already had about 27,000 views as of press time, several thousand more than the population of White Bear Lake. Nelson released the single and music video on Black Friday, he said. “Grew Up Home” will be part of the
singer and songwriter's first studio album, scheduled to be released next spring. The video, filmed by a friend, Rolland JN Nisben of Odd Fish Films, includes iconic shots around White Bear Lake, including Cup and Cone and the Manitou Island bridge. “There was a definite risk in crossing the bridge,” Nelson said, noting he didn't get caught but has been shooed off the private bridge in the past. The shot was taken from a camera attached on Nelson's old Cadillac, he said. Now living in St. Paul, Nelson has positive memories

of growing up in the city. “I was born and raised in White Bear Lake,” he said. “White Bear is such a great town. The people are so friendly. It has got like a family feel to it, even though it has grown during the years. It is a family-oriented town and it is a beautiful place. I think everyone who grows up in White Bear Lake knows what I am talking about.” Nelson makes frequent visits to White Bear to visit his mom, and plays at Tally's Dockside in the summers. “I am in White Bear at least a couple times a week,”
