Township’s turn to add pickleball courts BY DEB NEUTKENS STAFF WRITER

WHITE BEAR TOWNSHIP — Pickleball could be coming to a township park. Town supervisors agreed to have the Park Board study the possibility of adding courts with Four Seasons Park mentioned as one location. The Eagle Street park already has tennis courts, which could be restriped and nets lowered to accommodate pickleball. Town Administrator Patrick Christopherson noted they are “not tied” to Four Seasons. “Staff thinks we could find another park in need of help and use the courts as a centerpiece for improvement,” he said. It was noted in a memo to the board that markings for pickleball courts “slightly interfere” with tennis sight lines, but “it is what all outdoor courts have done.” One solution at Four Seasons is to dedicate half the area to tennis and half to pickleball. Parking spaces would also be added. Board member Scott McCune was surprised at the $23,900 quote from C&H Sport Surfaces, thinking it sounded high. “But I don’t build things,” he said. Money will come from the park fund once a decision is made where and when to build new courts. In other business at the Oct. 2 Town Board meeting, a promise was made to a townhome association to look into its water bill. Weston Woods Townhome Association representative Roger Ocel asked the board for more equitable treatment when it comes to billing. He contends that townhome residents are overcharged for the utility compared to single-family residents. “Single-family residents with irrigation are billed at a lower-tiered system,” Ocel said. “We are billed in the fourth, or most expensive, tier. We want to be
