Lakeshore Players announces leadership change BY DEBRA NEUTKENS EDITOR

WHITE BEAR LAKE — Longtime Executive Director Joan Elwell and Lakeshore Players Theatre have parted company, effective Sept. 19. "The split was amicable," said Mike Spellman, president of the theater's board of directors. "There are no fireworks over this. It was a very clean, easy parting in which we wish Joan the best. We gave her a nice severance package." In a phone interview hours before boarding a plane to Amsterdam, Spellman explained that the community theater is at a critical juncture in its history. "We are changing from one thing into something a whole lot different," he said. "It's not just a little theater anymore. We need a different kind of leader with different strengths. It's never comfortable or fun, but the board decided it was time to make a change." That change involves the Sept. 20 hiring of Interim Executive Director Renae Oswald-Anderson. A partner with Strategic Consulting & Coaching, she brings 27 years of leadership and management in the nonprofit sector to the theater. Oswald-Anderson most recently served as interim executive director for the White Bear Area Emergency Food Shelf prior to the hiring of its current director. A Stillwater Township

Two bodies found in home had been there for more than a year BY SARA MARIE MOORE VADNAIS HEIGHTS EDITOR

WHITE BEAR LAKE — The morning of Sept. 20, White Bear Lake police found a man with two bodies in his house — one on the main floor and one in the basement. In the midst of the investigation, an apparent relative who lived in the home, 59-year-old Robert Kuefler, was arrested for alleged financial exploitation of a vulnerable adult. He was released two days later due to a state law that requires law enforcement to charge or release a suspect within 36 to 48 hours, reported Capt. Dale Hager of the White Bear Lake Police Department. Kuefler was not charged yet because

of the amount of financial records the department has to sift through. “We are not ready to pursue charging of him,” Hager said. “There is just simply too much crime scene to deal with and too much evidence found to sift through to do that in a timely fashion. He may be charged in the future.” Kuefler may have returned home, as the house is no longer taped off as a crime scene. “The city of White Bear Lake, I believe, is taking some action to help encourage Robert to make sure he cleans the residence appropriately after an incident like this,” Hager said. “We don't believe that Robert poses a public risk.” SEE CRIME SCENE, PAGE 8A
