Sold: Island off the market BY DEBRA NEUTKENS EDITOR
One Bald Eagle Island has sold, but not to Hans Stachowiak, the German-born music producer who planned to build a recording studio on the property. A second party had his eye on the island and made a noncontingent offer owners Jane and Nick Van Brunt accepted. The deal closed on June 16. The new owner is Nathan Landucci, head of Stillwater-based Landucci Homes. He is also building the first home in Powers Estates, a three-lot subdivision on Bald Eagle Boulevard and Short Street in White Bear Township. “Normally, I wouldn’t buy an existing home,” Landucci said, “but the home is just so spectacular and so well built. I’ve been talking to the Van Brunts for a couple of years. I’ve always been the secondary buyer. I think they had enough of the first party. They wanted to sell it and move on with their life.” Landucci, who is single, has already moved in. As for commercial plans for the property, he said right now he’s just interested in using it as his residence. “There is always potential, I’m a businessman and the house has opportunity, but right now, I’m just thinking it will be my house.” In correspondence dated June 8, Stachowiak told the Press he was still hopeful “to come to a successful closing and project implementation, despite many problems still to overcome. I still believe that Bald Eagle Island would be a great asset and platform for our ongoing, international projects.” SEE ISLAND, PAGE 9A

Vineyard named for lucky No. 7 BY DEBRA NEUTKENS EDITOR
PAUL DOLS | PRESS PUBLICATIONS
Vineyard manager Steve Unverzagt shows off his pride and joy, one of five varieties of hybrid grapes growing on 10 acres in Dellwood. The winery will be located on the north side of Highway 96.
Now that the grapevines are maturing, digging will soon commence for Seven Vines Winery in Dellwood. Owned by Ron and Arlie Peltier, the 10-acre vineyard dissected by Highway 96 has been years in the making. "We are continuing on the journey started five years ago to create a wonderful destination vineyard and winery," said Peltier, CEO and chairman of HomeServices of America, the second largest residential brokerage firm in the United States. The vineyard is part of a 188-acre estate purchased by the Peltiers in 2010. It was the country home of the late
Peter Ffolliott and his wife Gertrude, who inherited the property from her mother Rachel Boeckmann. Boeckmann was given the land by her father, railroad baron James J. Hill. The estate features virgin timber, a 28-acre lake and a century-old mansion that the Peltiers refurbished and moved into last September. The property has all the key ingredients for a destination winery, Peltier said, noting that there are only about 50 wineries in Minnesota and few that adjoin a historic golf course. Golfers from the White Bear Yacht Club can see the vineyards from the fourth fairway and the eighth green. SEE VINEYARD, PAGE 8A
