Santa was invited to attend an event called Paws and Planes. The organization aims to get young children interested in aviation while helping to spread awareness of dogs and cats in shelters who need adoption. Although he can only deliver presents with his sleigh, Santa enjoyed trying out a Piper Decathlon airplane.

AN INTERVIEW Santa Claus is very busy getting ready for Christmas, but he recently took some time out of his busy schedule to sit down with Press Publications and provide a little insight into how the Christmas magic happens. Q: What do you eat before the big night? A: I eat whatever Mrs. Claus cooks for me! But I get hungry on my rounds, so I eat the cookies and snacks the children leave for me. Q: How do you stay up all night on Christmas Eve while you’re delivering presents? A: Lots of Christmas music, hot cocoa and warm cookies! Q: How many hours of sleep do you get before you ride out on your sleigh?

A: Sleep? What’s that?

Q: Why do you fly in a sleigh and not in an airplane? A: I need my sleigh, which is pulled by my nine reindeer, including Rudolph. Airplanes don’t work with reindeer. Q: What’s your favorite kind of cookie? A: All of the cookies! Q: Do you always wear your suit? A: I wear my special suit when I’m delivering presents around the world. I don’t wear my suit in the workshop; it’s too hard to keep clean! Q: How do you tell the elves apart? A: Have you ever tried herding cats? I don’t tell tell the elves

anything, except “Get back to work!”

Q: How do you fit all the toys in one bag? A: I use a VERY BIG bag! Q: What do you like doing for fun at the North Pole when you’re not preparing for Christmas? A: I enjoy playing hide and seek with my elves. Of course, I’m always prepping for next Christmas. Q: How do you keep track of who’s nice and who’s naughty? Do you have a book of names or have you gone digital? A: I’m definitely “old-school”: I use books. A lot of books!

The city of Vadnais Heights is following the lead of other cities by passing a resolution withdrawing its support for the Purple Line Bus Rapid Transit Project. “The reason for this resolution is all of our neighbors have gotten together and opposed the Purple Line due to communication issues,” Council Member Patricia Youker said. Council Member Greg Urban gave a brief background on the Purple Line at the Dec. 6 City Council meeting. “It was presented to us as something that was going to come through Vadnais Heights on its way to White Bear Lake with a stop on Highway 61 that would then service the Sports Center,” he said. “As soon as White Bear Lake decided they didn’t want it, Metro Transit, without talking to us, decided that they were considering running it through downtown Vadnais Heights. That was never brought before us or discussed with us. We all found out in the newspaper that they might be coming into the center of our city. So that was certainly an issue from a communications standpoint. There’s a history here of bad communication with Metro Transit; we don’t know what they’re proposing or what they’re thinking.” Council Member Erik Goebel agreed that Metro Transit has had poor communication with the cities involved in the Purple Line. He said that Council Member Steve Rogers, City Administrator Kevin Watson and himself recently participated in a phone call with staff from Metro Transit. “They acknowledged that they have had poor communication with the cities,” Goebel said. “They explained that how they communicate with us can be dictated however we would like it to be. Essentially, they said if we want to get an update once a month, they would be willing to do so.” He added, “In light of that, the communication issue should not be a problem. I don’t think that a resolution is the appropriate way to go about saying that we are not communicating appropriately. I think that if we would simply reach out, they would be here and they would be informing us of what we need to know.” Goebel noted that he received eight emails from residents who didn’t like the title in the resolution. “The feedback I’m getting from residents is the resolution is OK, but they don’t want to see
