LEXINGTON—In a room fi lled with more residents than were at the planning and zoning meeting Sept. 12, the City Council ultimately approved the rezoning application of land owned by Dinkytown Rentals at its meeting Sept. 21, after the proposed apartment building was scaled down from five stories to four. The rezoning application was a condition of the purchase agreement of the vacant DuWayne property, already zoned for high density, by Dinkytown Rentals. Dinkytown had presented the Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Council with a proposed five-story, 116-unit apartment complex proposal for the combined properties between DuWayne Avenue and Syndicate Avenue in recent weeks. The Council heard a revised proposal from Dinkytown representatives at the meeting, who presented a scaled back yet still sizeable development. Ken Piper, of Tanek, the architectural fi rm, and Glen Rank, of Dinkytown Rentals, guided the council and residents through the amended blueprint and spent more time on the details of the finished units and landscaping issues. What was fi rst proposed as a 116-unit, 62foot tall, five-story building was downsized to 89 units, 45-feet tall and four stories. This year’s Centennial Hall of Fame looks ‘athletic’
