American Legion honors Centennial Lakes sergeant BY SHANNON GRANHOLM EDITOR
Centennial Lakes Police Department (CLPD) Sgt. Matt Giese first became interested in law enforcement in the fifth grade when he was a school crossing guard. He has now worked in law enforcement for 12 years, all of which have been with CLPD. Giese was selected at the Officer of the Year and was honored by the department and American Legion Post 566 with a special ceremony at the Police Governing Board meeting Monday, July 9. “Detective Giese has always strived to make the law enforcement profession better in general, and the Centennial Lakes Police Department better in particular. He
is a well-rounded law enforcement officer who has regularly exceeded, above and beyond, the duty requirements of his positions,” said CLPD Lt. Russell Blanck. “He is a Meritorious Conduct Award recipient who exemplifies the virtues of professionalism and dedication. He has also demonstrated a distinct pattern of service to his community and has proven his personal dedication to societal security and protection.” Each year Post 566 asks CLPD and the Lino Lakes Police Department to nominate an individual they think is worthy of the recognition. The picks from each department are then honored at a city council/ police governing board meeting and SHANNON GRANHOLMS | PRESSPUBLICATIONS

CIRCLE PINES—Quad area residents who are looking for one-of-a kind furniture pieces, artwork, jewelry or a place to learn something new, have a new shop to check out—right in town. La Vintage LaRee opened its doors at 2K South Pine Dr. in Circle Pines. Owner Korrine ScottKline, a Circle Pines resident, was happy when the opportunity arose to relocate her business from Forest Lake to her own community. “I am super excited to be here and that the community is excited to have me here. I just love the people,” she said. Scott-Kline has owned the shop for 1 ½ years. She previously worked in the real estate business before she decided that wasn’t for her and started painting again. “I was a single mom of five, and I always wanted to have a really nice house but I didn’t have the money to do it,” she recalled. “I was a young mother so at a very young age my mom, my grandma, my aunties gave me things and I just started painting.” One day she held a garage sale and put some of her work on display.
