LINO LAKES — Situated on 51 acres of woods and wetlands, is a quiet, private place surrounded by wildlife and home to a hidden treasure for those who wish to deepen their spirituality. Christos Center For Spiritual Formation has been located off Holly Drive in Lino Lakes since 1990, but many people often pass by completely unaware it is there. “In many ways Christos feels like a spiritual home to me. It's not that I don't go to church, I do go and I enjoy it, but it has enhanced my own personal journey and spiritual growth,” said Christos Board Member and Spiritual Director Debbi Horton. “There is a freedom about this place. There isn't an expectation that you are going to believe a certain thing. There isn't an expectation that you have got to believe this, this and this to come here or that you are going to have all the answers.” Joann Nesser founded the concept of Christos back in 1978. After attending silent retreats led by Catholic nuns
Centennial's Extended School Year (ESY) program hosted its annual 4th of July parade despite the rainy conditions on Tuesday, July 3, outside of Centennial Middle School. See more photos on page 12.

Animals spur memories for seniors BY SHANNON GRANHOLM EDITOR
Seniors in Lino Lakes and Hugo recently received a special visit from a horse, pony and miniature donkey. White Bear Lake resident Kim Wycislak has been bringing the team of three to Lino Lakes Assisted Living & Memory Care since 2014. From May through September, they typically visit the facility once a month. For the fi rst time, she also brought them to Keystone Place at LaValle Fields in Hugo, which she hopes will result

in monthly visits. “Our residents love it when Kim brings in her horses. Animals are so therapeutic,” said Lino Lakes Assisted Living Life Enrichment Director Niki Koski. “It’s amazing to see their faces light up when an animal comes around. It may spark a memory from their childhood or just the companionship that an animal brings, even for a small amount of time, can brighten their day.” Wycislak has been riding horses since she was 8 years old.
