Centennial booster clubs join forces to raise money BY SHANNON GRANHOLM EDITOR

Snow can’t stop the Easter Bunny

One of the downfalls of living in a small community is that sports teams and clubs have to compete with one another for support from local businesses. Many of the Centennial High School booster clubs are joining forces for the first time in an effort to raise money for all sports groups, regardless of size. “It's a small community and we have a lot of very supportive local businesses, and they get hit up by all of the sports,” said Renae Driskell, of the Gymnastics Booster Club. “The idea is if they want to make a onetime donation, then the money can go to the all of the sports that want to participate.” The booster clubs are taking part in an online fundraiser offered through the Anoka Hennepin Credit Union (AHCU). Centennial Activities Director Brian Hegseth said about a year ago, the district was approached by the credit union to see if they would be interested in participating in the 2017 Spirit Walk. Only one group from the district participated, due to the short notice, but the district expressed interest in seeing more groups join this year's effort. Hegseth explained that the heads of the booster clubs all started meeting

Longtime sergeant leaves area police agency BY SHANNON GRANHOLM EDITOR

After a 14-year career with the Centennial Lakes Police Department (CLPD), Sgt. Kris Carlson is moving on to a new journey. Carlson's last day in uniform was March 28. He served as a patrol officer for four years, in investigations for seven years and, most recently, as a patrol sergeant for three years. Although he accumulated numerous

commendations and awards, one that stands out is his 2016 Offi cer of the Year award. “In whatever endeavor he sought to undertake, he did so with the same high degree of determination, enthusiasm and dedication … he stood as a shining example for us all and for the public that he so ably served and protected during his career,” said Chief James Coan. “He handled all of his cases and calls with the same high level of care, compassion and courage.

At the same time, he has been a strong advocate for the victims of domestic abuse and for improving professional policing and public safety in our community.” At the early age of 6, Carlson knew exactly what career he wanted to pursue. He recalled a book his mother held on to from when he was in kindergarten. It listed his top three choices for a profession: police officer, fi refighter or paramedic (in SEE CENTENNIAL LAKES, PAGE 7
