‘Noon Year’s Eve’ party a room full of cheer BY JOLENE FRID CONTRIBUTING WRITER

Meghan Michalicek, a third-grader at Golden Lake Elementary, made her own party hat and danced to party songs like The Beatles’ “Twist and Shout.”

CIRCLE PINES – Centennial Public Library held a familyfriendly party to ring in the New Year from 11 a.m. to noon Dec. 31. The event featured a dance party that was kicked off with “Linus and Lucy,” the classic Peanuts theme song by Vincent Guaraldi. Not all the kids were comfortable dancing right away, but when Matt Youngbauer, library staff member began dancing, others joined in. “It’s like at a wedding,” he said. “It’s not until the bride and

groom start to dance that others do.” Youngbauer’s passion for getting kids and their families into the library is clear when he talks about organizing events like this one. The party included a station for making party hats as well as balloons galore. The toast was held a little earlier than intended due to the premature falling of balloons. “We had a collapse,” said Youngbauer, indicating the ceiling where the balloons had been taped. “We had fun.” Rachel Garofalo, a 15-year-old volunteer and Centennial High

School student, has been volunteering at the library since last summer and helped the party run smoothly. “It’s fun working with the kids,” she said. During the summer, she helped at the craft table for the library’s Story Walk program, an event held every other week that featured giant printed versions of books on the lawn outside that patrons can walk through and read.
