By Mara Winke It’s time for the seventh annual North Oaks Halloween Party! On Saturday, Oct. 24 from 3-5 p.m., tiny ghosts, princesses, and ninjas will fill the West Rec Area on West Pleasant Lake Road to celebrate Halloween. Sponsored by the North Oaks Social Club, the North Oaks Halloween Party has become an annual tradition for many families in our community. Due to the enormous popularity of the event, this year’s party has been moved from Wilkinson Pavilion to the West Rec Area to allow for easier parking and access to the new West Rec Center. The event will feature live entertainment and games for boys and girls of all ages. Lots of crowd favorites will be back, including pony rides, sack races,

When it comes to caring about wild things and wild places, Chris Mann is a natural. As a young girl growing up in California, Mann sparked her interest in the natural world by reading a variety of books about “kids and their adventures in the woods and water.” At her family cabin in the San Bernardino Mountains, Mann spent a great deal of time hiking, exploring, and furthering her knowledge about nature. At the ripe age of 24, Mann and her husband moved to Minnesota. She couldn’t believe how lush and green it was here. Mann found the wildlife to be more varied and interesting as well. Their first house in Minnesota was adjacent to a wetland teeming with raucous yellow-headed blackbirds. Mann’s love of nature led her to serve on the North Oaks Natural Resources Commission, where she has been a

We are offering traditional poinsettias in a variety of colors. They arrive beautifully dressed and are sure to add holiday cheer to your home or business. They also make great gifts for friends, neighbors and colleagues! We are excited to be offering other
