BAYPORT — Whether it’s the romance of a bygone era, the joy of piloting a vessel crafted from a living tree, or an appreciation for the enduring beauty of fine wood, classic boat lovers are expected at the Sixth Annual Antique & Classic Boat Show Saturday, Aug. 15 at Bayport Marina. Bayport Marina Association partners with Mallards on the St. Croix Restaurant and Lounge to host the show, which is free and open to the public. Chris Craft, Hacker Craft, Crestliner, Century, and custom boats of all kinds will be on display both on land and in the water, according to Kori Derrick, the association's office manager. “This year, the international show is in Minnesota, so there’s a lot of buzz
about antique and classic boats,” she said, pointing to the much larger show on Gull Lake hosted by the Antique and Classic Boat Society in September. The Bayport boat show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 15 features artisan vendor booths, concessions and classic cars as well as boats. Food sales benefit youth sailing educational organization Sea Scouts which is affiliated with the Boy Scouts. Visitors will be greeted by volunteers from Let’s Go Fishing, a nonprofit offering free fishing and boating excursions. They can then walk down the dock to view the boats, stroll through the marina’s “Boatique” to shop for boating merchandise and fill out a ballot; awards will be given for People’s Choice, Kids’ Choice and Best of Show. Mallards on the St. Croix will be open throughout, hosting a wine tasting from

4 to 6 p.m. and the Rock the Dock Music Festival beginning at 6 p.m. featuring Rolling Stones tribute band Tumblin’ Dice. Bayport Marina Association boat owners Joel Lemanski and his wife Michelle started the show several years ago after seeing the popularity of a similar show on Lake Minnetonka. “We wanted to include the wooden boat people from this side of town,” he explained. “A lot of people with large cruisers couldn’t get their boats over there.” The Grant residents operate Classic Boat Hardware, which specializes in restoring 1900-1967 classic wooden boats and providing parts for people who want to restore boats themselves.
