In this edition of the 4 Seasons Fun Guide, we have put together a calendar with a variety of community events ranging from local farmers markets to signature events and so much more. Here at the Press, we made the decision to keep the community calendar hyper-local, focusing on the cities within our coverage area.
But have no fear, within this edition, you’ll still find a wide variety of activities to attend. Our communities are vibrant, and host multiple events throughout the year to keep residents busy and engaged.
In the summer, local communities put on various festivals and farmers markets for you to enjoy. Every July, the city of Shoreview puts on its annual Slice of Shoreview festival. The “Slice,” as it’s known to the city’s residents, is a weekend long event that includes a carnival, parade, fireworks, water balloon fights, a classic car show and so much more.
If you happen to find yourself in downtown White Bear Lake, make sure to stop by Marketfest. Marketfest takes place every Thursday beginning in June and lasts until the end of July. It features over 100 merchandise and food vendors. You will also have the opportunity to look at classic cars and enjoy music performed by local bands.
We’ve also curated a list of summer programs offered by our cities for parents to enroll their children in to keep them learning even when school’s out. Also don’t forget to check out the article about what’s happening at Press Publications’ annual classic and vintage boat show in White Bear Lake.
For those looking to experience something a little out of the ordinary, we’ve included a list of local restaurants that include some unique eats.
We hope you enjoy your time in the northeast suburbs and find our communities as vibrant, engaging and welcoming as we do.

Boat lovers will have plenty to explore at the 19th annual Classic & Vintage Boat Show.
The outdoor event, set for Saturday, June 20, offers free admission and showcases a wide range of boats. Attendees can vote for their favorite vessels in categories including sailboat, motorized/runabout, rowboat and a People’s Choice award, while also connecting with fellow boaters from across the region.
For many participants, the White Bear Lake Boat Show marks the unofficial start of boating season.
“It’s the first boat show of the season,” said Pete Johnson, winner of the “Rowboat” category in 2025, who has been bringing boats to the show for about a decade. “If you have a car, you go to car shows. If you have a boat, you bring it to the boat show. It’s just fun to talk to people.”
This year, Johnson plans to bring a 1926 Larson 14-foot runabout, a boat nearing its 100th birthday, offering visitors a rare glimpse into
early recreational boating history
Lisa and Kevin Westman, who have participated in multiple years of the vintage show, previously won in the “Sailboat” category for a restored 1955 two-man racing dinghy by Fairey Marine, a British-designed sailboat built using technology developed during World War II. Lisa Westman inherited the boat from her father around three years ago, and the couple just finished a two year restoration of the boat.
Kevin Westman said the show’s outdoor setting and its connection to White Bear Lake’s sailing history keep drawing him back.
“I learned how to sail on White Bear Lake,” he said. “It’s always fun coming back. It’s a nice show — all outside, and it’s a good show.”
Beyond the boats themselves, community groups will once again play a visible role at the event. The U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Division 11, plans to return after a successful appearance last year, where its patrol vessel Voyageur became a
popular attraction.
“I was completely overwhelmed by how well we were accepted,” said Jim McCarthy, a Division 11 member.
“So many people were enthused by meeting us. ‘They were like, Oh, well, I never knew you guys even existed, what do you guys do?’” He said.
The Auxiliary focuses on boating safety education, free vessel safety checks and public outreach, and McCarthy said events like the boat show are a valuable way to connect with boaters ahead of the busy summer season.
“We want people to know we’re there for them,” he said. “If they have questions about safety or inspections, we want them to walk away with answers.”
Boat owners interested in displaying their vessels can register for free at presspubs.com/ boatshow. The event will take place at the White Bear Shopping Center, 4391 Lake Avenue S., White Bear Lake.

Save the date. Marketfest will kick off on June 18 and run every Thursday through July 30.
Marketfest is a family-oriented festival to bring people to downtown White Bear Lake to promote the city’s businesses and enhance the sense of community.
Approximately 4,000 to 5,000 people attend each week.
There are two stages with live music and intermission acts each week. In 2025, 63 bands applied for a chance to perform during the festival; 14 bands and 14 intermission acts were selected. For 2026, 85 bands applied. Although the schedule is still in the works, Marketfest Director Laura Lewis shared that some of the
performers on the Gazebo stage will include Midnight Lounge Jazz Band, Dirty Shorts Brass Band, Salsa del Soul, Good News Big Band and Rare Form.
There are over 180 vendors onsite per week, featuring food trucks, arts & crafts, merchants & services and nonprofit organizations. In 2025, 258 vendors participated over the seven weeks, and 12 new food vendors participated.
Each week of Marketfest boats a different theme. Past themes have included — White Bear Lake history night, Avenue for the Arts, biz kids/biz seniors night, public safety night, AFSA Science and agriculture night and an
environmental resource expo. The themes for 2026 have yet to be announced.
Other highlights of the summer get-together include a kid’s activity zone, classic car show and fire engine tours.
Lewis says the event would not be possible without the support and generosity of many people and organizations to make it all work, including the city of White Bear Lake Public Works, police department, fire department, TRIAD, CERT, volunteers, Scouts, Marketfest board, staff and volunteers.
For more information about Marketfest, visit www. marketfestwbl.com.

Every summer, the city of Shoreview hosts its annual festival, the Slice of Shoreview—known to locals simply as “The Slice.” The festival began in 1990 and takes place in July at Island Lake Park located on Victoria Street.
Activities include a carnival, parade, classic car show, food vendors, live music, fireworks and so much more. One of the most notable events includes the TourDe-Trails, put on by the Shoreview Bikeways and Trails Committee. Participants are able to bike
various routes that showcase the city’s many trails. Another event popular among teenage festival goers is “water wars,” which includes “battle stations” with water balloon bucket launchers. Participating teams fire water balloons back and forth at each other.
Another classic Slice event is the Running of the Melons, sponsored by the Arden Hills/Shoreview Lions Club. All participants for the event must be at least 18 years old. The festival is run by the
Slice Volunteer Committee. The committee is led by longtime Board Chair Jacci Krebsbach. The group meets 11 months out of the year to plan the big event.
The Slice is free and relies on sponsors to keep it that way. The biggest fundraiser for the event is the Taste of Shoreview, which takes place sometime in April at the Shoreview Community Center. You don’t need to drive far – or, in today’s world, scroll endlessly through social media pages – to stumble upon something surprising to eat. Across White Bear Lake and nearby communities, local kitchens are quietly serving dishes that stop diners

mid-bite, whether it’s a dessert disguised as a sandwich or a café creation with a comic-book name.
Here are some of the most unexpected – and worth-seeking-out – food finds in the area.
Tuna Tataki with a Korean Twist
Known for tabletop grills and classic Korean barbecue spreads, Young’s Korean BBQ surprises diners with its tuna tataki – lightly seared, sashimi-style tuna paired with strong sauces that lean more Korean than coastal.
It’s the kind of dish you don’t really expect to order in a barbecue spot – and that’s exactly why it works. Clean, delicate, and sharply plated, it’s a standout for diners looking to step just outside their comfort zone without going too far.
Blood Orange French Toast (Seasonal dish)
Churchill Street has built a reputation for elevated comfort food, but occasionally the kitchen leans playful – like with its blood orange French toast, a seasonal brunch dish that swaps syrup-heavy sweetness for citrus brightness.
The result is visually striking: vibrant orange hues, balanced acidity, and a brunch plate that feels special without even trying too hard.

Chocolate Hazelnut Panini
Punch Pizza is synonymous with Neapolitan-style pies, which makes its chocolate hazelnut panini such a curveball. It’s pressed like a savory sandwich but filled with rich chocolate spread; it lands somewhere between dessert and guilty pleasure.
It’s a simple, indulgent, and often overlooked – the kind of dish in an order that turns a pizza night into something memorable.
Pub Food with a Twist
MC’s Tap House leans classic at first glance, but its menu regularly sneaks in inventive combos that elevate standard pub fare. Whether it’s a loaded sandwich or a specialty burger, there’s often something on the board that makes diners pause before ordering – and then order it anyway.

The Heart Stopper Pizza
Donatelli’s doesn’t shy away from bold claims – and The Heart Stopper lives up to its name. Loaded with layers of meat, cheese, and rich toppings, this pizza is less a meal and more a challenge. It’s the kind of order that arrives at the table and immediately becomes everyone’s business.
If the name doesn’t warn you, the first bite will. Death by Chocolate and Peanut Butter is a full-throttle dessert built for serious sweet tooths – rich chocolate, peanut butter layers, and zero restraint.
Dragon’s Breath Mead
Mead alone is still a novelty for many drinkers – and White Bear Meadery leans fully into that unfamiliar territory. One of its most unexpected offerings is Dragon’s Breath, a capsicumel mead made with chipotle peppers and Minnesota basswood honey.
It is just one example of how expansive the Meadery’s menu is, which spans everything from coffee-infused meads and root beer–inspired blends to fruit-forward and non-alcoholic options – making the tasting room a destination for adventurous palates.

The Green Goblin Sandwich
With a name like Green Goblin, expectations are high. Packed with bold green ingredients and layered flavors, it’s distinctive and unapologetically messy in the best way.

Bear Boating of White Bear Lake is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) group offering boating or fishing excursions to seniors (60+), active duty military, veterans and people with disabilities.
Since 2015, Bear Boating has been providing weekday two-hour fishing or sightseeing excursions, on White Bear Lake from June through August. Thanks to donations from individuals and the community, the organization can offer trips free of charge.
In 2023, Bear Boating passed the 10,000-passenger threshold. In 2024, the organization offered four trips a day and hosted 1,751 passengers on 251 trips. In 2025, 21 captains and 103 mates completed 225 trips, taking out
1,819 passengers from 97 senior living facilities.
“It’s challenging to pinpoint a single ‘memorable trip’ because we have a diverse group of passengers, including those up to and over 100 years old,” said President Dave Ryan. “We take out life-long residents of the area who have never been on the lake, some of whom have never even set foot on a boat. It’s incredibly rewarding to be able to bring out guests who use large electric wheelchairs, as there aren’t many options for them to get on a boat.”
Ryan added that they have had two groups of Special Olympians who have been repeat riders. “They were incredibly inspiring to spend two hours with,” Ryan recalled.
Bear Boating has an additional 12 volunteers in non-crew support roles, bringing the total to 135 volunteers. There are no paid staff.
Bear Boating’s pontoon can comfortably accommodate up to 10 guests and three crew members. They routinely accommodate wheelchairs, and you can find them operating near the city fishing pier on the north side of the VFW.
Ryan says the White Bear Lake Senior Center has been a valued partner for many years and assists the nonprofit in scheduling 28 trips this year for individuals and groups of less than six passengers. For more information on scheduling a trip, visit www. bearboating.org.

As schools lets out and schedules open up, summer days camps and youth programs are stepping in. These camps and programs offer familiar engaging options to keep kids active, curious, make new friends and make the most of their summer break.
In Lino Lakes, The Rookery Activity Center offers youth summer day camps beginning in June. The camps run through August and provide kids time to enjoy small and large group games outside, arts and crafts as well as other weekly themed activities. The Rookery offers two different camps: Rookery Kids Camp and Mini Rookery Kids Camp. Kids who have completed Kindergarten by the first day of camp are encouraged to join the Rookery Kids Camp. Campers who are 4 years old can join the Mini Rookery Kids Camp. Parents can sigh their kid up for either camp through The Rookery website.
For residents in the White
Bear Lake area, the White Bear Lake Community Services and Recreation offers a variety of youth recreational activities ranging from day camps to sports camps. Students who participate in the extended day summer program have the opportunity to spend time indoors and outdoors participating in activity play, team building and literacy-based activities. Kids who attend the program also have the opportunity to take art, sciences and dramatic play classes to complement their daily schedule. The camp runs from June to August. Parents can enroll their child through the White Bear Lake Community Services and Recreation website.
Other summer programs and activities offered for White Bear Lake students includes the FLEX Summer Program, suitable for kids in Middle School, and various sports such as T-Ball, gymnastics, tennis and baseball.
In Shoreview, students can
participate in Summer Discovery. The program also runs from June to August and offers three different versions depending on your child’s age. Kids in the Summer Discovery Beginning program are just entering into kindergarten. They will enjoy swimming on Fridays in the waterparks at the Shoreview Community Center, weekly arts and crafts, science experiments and more. On Wednesdays, participants will also go on a field trip. Those in the Summer Discovery: Grades 1-6 will also participate in similar activities. Summer Discovery NextGen is suitable for kids ages 12-14. This program helps young leaders develop confidence, teamwork and communication skills through hands-on activities, group challenges and mentorship from Summer Discovery staff. Parents can sign their kids up for any of these programs through the Shoreview Parks and Recreation website.

Although Community Park is a popular destination all year round, the park sees an influx of activity in the fall for the Scarecrow Trail.
