‘Centerville’ - Welcome Home

This gem of a city was established in 1857 before the State of MN was established, yet for years the first question from anyone outside of the city always seemed to be, “where is that”? Well, that question is no more, the wellkept secret is now out. Centerville Is a great community to live, raise a family and start a business! Centerville provides some of the best public safety in the metro area lead by Centennial Lakes Fire Department and Centennial Lakes Police Department. Both of these departments serve multiple cities and are a shining star of innovation and collaboration. Our citizens feel safe and know help is only moments away. Centerville is also home to Centerville elementary which is a proud member of the Centennial School District. We support our mighty, mighty Cougars in an environment of academic excellence which continually creates all-stars who impact the community, state and sometimes the world in fabulous ways. We also cheer on our sports programs as athletes and coaches continually cultivate a winning culture from the moment they start competing in 2nd or 3rd grade all the way through their senior years and often on college fields, courts, and pools. Many who have visited our fair city have driven on Centerville Road and driven by Centerville Lake. We are blessed with easy

access to St. Paul via 35E, which allows our citizens to commute to work or to larger events rather easily. They also enjoy the privilege of our many walking trails, our two lakes; Centerville and Peltier, as well as our many city parks led by our largest park; LaMotte which connects to the regional trail system. Centerville is home to Fete de Lacs, our summer festival, the Centerville Ice Fishing Contest, The Bald Eagle Waterski show, Main Street Market, Music in the Park during the summer, Christmas in the Park as well as many other neighborhood events and activities many of which are directed by a great group of Park and Recreation Board members as well as our faithful Lions Club! Centerville is home to St. Genevieve Church, Eagle Brook Church headquarters, two new boutiques, an Amazon fulfillment center, the famous Kelly’s Bar and Grill, entrance to a County Park and in close proximity to the Wargo Nature Center as well as Running Aces Casino and Horse Racing. Centerville is a vibrant city with many great neighbors! We are growing but maintain a community feel. It is a city I am extremely proud to call home and a place ready to welcome you home! White Bear Lake Area Schools serves all or parts of Birchwood, Gem Lake, Hugo, Lino Lakes, Little Canada, Maplewood, North Oaks, Vadnais Heights, White Bear Lake and White Bear Township. Good Neighbor Days will return to Lions Volunteer Park in 2024.

Good Neighbor Days boasts something for everyone Good Neighbor Days has long been a tradition in the city of Hugo. 2024 will mark the 48th annual celebration, which happens in June. Although it is not official just yet, the celebration is likely to return to Lions Volunteer Park, after being held at Hanifl Fields for a couple of years while the park and neighboring streets were under construction.

The theme changes each year, but many staples return year after year including carnival rides, food trucks, pony rides, music and fireworks. In addition, there is a parade, cornhole tournament, vendor/craft fair and live music. The Hugo Lions typically run shuttles in the evenings during the event to make sure everyone can make it to and from the event safely.

Area pickleball courts, including the one outside of Sunrise Park Middle School, attract players of all ages to what has become the fastest growing sport in the country. Additional courts have also been constructed at Lions Volunteer Park in Hugo.

The fastest growing sport keeps growing Part tennis. Part badminton. Part ping pong. The sport of pickleball has quickly become the fastest growing sport in America. According to the Sports & Fitness Industry, the number of those participating in the sport has grown over 159% in the last three years over the 8.9 million in 2022. The rapid growing sport has caused many communities to add additional courts to parks, community centers and

recreational centers. In White Bear Lake, there are four parks that include pickleball courts for the public to use. Lifetime Fitness is another location that offers pickleball to its members as well as lessons for beginners. The White Bear Lake pickleball club runs year round and is available to residents and nonresidents. The club reserves courts at the Sunrise Middle School from June to September

with various playing times for members to step out and enjoy a game or two. Pickleball is a social sport and community based.
