“MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS” ((PG-13) [VIOLENCE AND THEMATIC ELEMENTS.] — After the legendary Orient Express luxury train leaves Istanbul in 1934 and an unsavory child killer (Johnny Depp) is found murdered in this love-it-or-hate-it, well-acted, unevenly paced, dialogue-heavy, thoughtprovoking, 114-minute remake of the 1974 classic film based on Agatha Christie’s 1934 mystery novel and highlighted by gorgeous cinematography and striking period wardrobe, the famous, meticulous, mustache-sporting detective Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) begins to investigate the murder and to interview possible suspects (Judi Dench, Derek Jacobi, Michelle Pfeiffer, Penélope Cruz, Willem Dafoe, Josh Gad, Lucy Boynton, Daisy Ridley, Leslie Odom Jr., Tom Bateman, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Sergei Polunin and Ziad Abaza) while on board the stalled train in an attempt to deduce who stabbed the victim to death.

I haven’t really “officially” released my winter forecast, so I might as well this week. We got off to a quick start to the snow season with several inches in October, but since then snow has been scarce. In fact, there doesn’t appear to be a Thanksgiving day storm in the forecast. Despite all this, I think we’ll receive 60 plus inches. Temperatures have rebounded after a cold start in early November, and it would be easy to say warmer than normal winter given our current climate situation. Despite this, I’m leaning toward a colder than normal winter.

[LANGUAGE THROUGHOUT INCLUDING SOME SEXUAL REFERENCES.] — After a widowed Naval exchange stocking clerk (Steve Carell) learns that his only son died while serving in Iraq in this touching, captivating, well-acted, quirky, unevenly paced, witty, 124-minute sequel to “The Last Detail,” the former Navy medic finds his two Vietnam Marine buddies, a heavy-drinking Virginia bar owner (Bryan Cranston) and a married preacher (Laurence Fishburne) in 2003, and they go on one wacky detour after another when he asks them to help him bury his son in New Hampshire after ignoring the advice of a hard-nosed colonel (Yul Vazquez) to bury him at Arlington Cemetery, and accept the help of his son’s friend (J. Quinton Johnson), who was with him when he died.

[THEMATIC ELEMENTS, INCLUDING BULLYING, AND SOME MILD LANGUAGE.] — A touching, inspirational, heartwarming, 113-minute film based on R.J. Palacio’s bestselling novel in which a smart, facially disfigured fifth-grader (Jacob Tremblay) who lives with his parents (Julia Roberts and Owen Wilson) and older sister (Izabela Vidovic) in New York City, tries desperately to navigate his first days at his prep school with the help of a compassionate principal (Mandy Patinkin) and to fit in with other students (Noah Jupe, Millie Davis, Bryce Gheisar, Ty Consiglio, et al.) when some of them bully and ostracize him.
