The weather is getting better and long summer days are just around the corner. It’s that time of year when public holidays come one after the other - Easter is quickly followed by the ‘May Day’ Bank Holiday on Monday 2 May, and then there is the late May Spring Bank Holiday, moved to Thursday 2 June this year to allow the nation to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Hopefully these extra holidays will give you the time to escape the stresses of everyday life and relax, get outdoors and explore all that our lovely town has to offer. When I have the time, I personally love to visit Church Street, wander along the cobbles and browse the quirky gift shops, then sit in one of the many delightful coffee shops and watch the world go by. If I have the energy and willpower afterwards, I then climb the 199 steps and visit the beautiful Abbey ruins with its spectacular views over the town.

• Don’t know what to do next?

The June enrolment covers initial weeks in the classroom at Whitby. These classes cover qualifications for the compulsory sea-going certificates, before going to sea on a placement arranged by the school. You will return to the classroom in November and December. During this time you will be trained in various maritime subjects covering such things as navigation, communications, vessel stability, maritime regulations and of course the practical side – net making and repair and pot making and repair. You will then have a break over Christmas and New Year.

• 19 years and thinking about hands-on training?

The achievement of the qualification will also include approximately 12 certificates. This ensures that at the end of the course, together with experience, certification and kit, you will be very employable.

• Whitby Fishing School can offer a 12 month Diploma in Sea Fishing

Our business relies on referrals and we got a huge amount of our calls from people who have been referred to us by our existing customers - that simply wouldn’t happen if we didn’t adhere to our overriding principles. At the end of the day the old adage that happy customers lead to more happy customers is true and we work hard to make that happen for every installation we carry out!’

These days most homeowners suffer from a lack of storage space. So many precious items that need to be kept – but where to store it all? That’s where Yorkshire Loft Ladders come in.

So, if you want to make use of your loft space, however big or small, call Mark on 0800 612 8359 and he’ll be happy to pop round and give you a no obligation quote so you too can make use of your loft!

The company, based locally, offers homeowners the opportunity to maximise their storage space with a loft ladder, 50 sq ft of boarding and a light all fully fitted in less than a day from just £277 + VAT. But it’s not just the affordability of the package the company offers that makes Yorkshire Loft Ladders stand out as manager Mark Hodson explains: ‘Our watchwords are Quality, Integrity and Value. Quality in the materials that we use for all our installations and the fact that all our loft packages are fitted by time served tradesmen so our customers are assured of the best job. Integrity in that we will turn up at the time we say and make sure the house is spotless when we leave, and Value in that we offer our services at a price people can afford.
