ABOUT THE PROJECT:
This an industry partner project with Breville, where they gave us a task to design a new water boiling device for their brand. I started with primary research into the Australian household with an aim to identify a problem that could be solved by creating a new kettle concept.
I conducted a survey on over 100 Australian families and found that 75% of home guest entertainment happens in areas outside of the kitchen. I realised that people need to leave their guests, head to the kitchen and wait for the kettle to boil. This was confirmed in the survey which found that 55% of people miss out on conversations when they leave to make hot drinks. I decided that I would design a mobile, battery powered kettle that is could be used with the guests. The kettle also had to match the Breville brand aesthetic and form that they incorporate in their products.

ABOUT ME:
I’m constantly designing and making in my free time. This has given me a broad, practical understanding of how materials can be manipulated. I can’t stop thinking about design and I find it super rewarding to build. I also have a large amount of self motivation and get excited about working on any project. I love to ride motorbikes, rock climb outdoors and go camping in my 4 wheel drive. My design inspiration partially comes from these hobbies and my upbringing on our family farm.

Top photos: The process of building a pizza oven and a bench. The bench was constructed from reclaimed timber out of an old hay shed. This timber would be over 150 years old.
Bottom left to right: Blacksmithed mattock with hand carved timber handle. 72 inch bench grinder that I designed and fabricated. Insulated kennels to keep our sheep dogs happy and warm, they can sit on the flat roof too.
