WILDFIRE HITS TOO CLOSE TO HOME: Squamish Fire Rescue and BC Wildfire Service crews have been fighting the Dryden Creek wildfire since Monday evening. The fire, located above the eastern end of Depot Road in the north end of Squamish, led to an evacuation alert for about 100 properties closest to the blaze. The District declared a local state of emergency Tuesday morning. As of press time, the fire is 14.4 hectares in size and out of control. It is believed to be human-caused. On May 31, Election and Referendum Law voting wrapped up with in-person ballots cast at polling stations in Squamish at Totem Hall and in Chief Joe Mathias Centre in West Vancouver. All told, 899 members voted—both online and in person. There are 3,300 eligible voters within the Nation.
