The Tiniest Mansion in Williamsport

Built by the celebrated carpenter-stair builder, William Slack, circa 1890, this house is a recreation of all of the lovely features and the layout of the Hermance Mansion, only much smaller. Besides building the Hermance staircase, Mr. Slack also built the staircase in the former Mulberry Street M.E. parsonage (also on tour this year), the James. V. Brown mansion, the mansions at 829 and 1022 West Fourth Street, the Rawle mansion, the Updegraff Hotel and many more. While this house is not the size of a mansion, the interior appears much larger than it actually is due to the optical illusions Slack created using his woodworking skills. The home has been cared for and kept in its original condition by the Potts family for over 42 years.

Tucquan Glen, Lancaster County Website: lancasterconservancy.org/preserves/tucquanglen-pyfer/

Located in the Susquehanna Riverlands, Tucquan Glen Nature Preserve offers a lush, forested ravine with tumbling streams, mossy boulders, and a dense canopy of trees. Tucquan Glen is managed by the Lancaster Conservancy, an organization dedicated to preserving wild and forested lands, as well as protecting clean waterways in Lancaster, Berks, and York Counties. This preserve is hike-in only, making it a peaceful and secluded spot to take in Pennsylvania’s natural beauty. If you’re looking for a less strenuous leaf-peeping experience, visit the Pinnacle Scenic Overlook, located close by. From here, guests can admire the landscape from the comfort of an overlook or traverse the 4-mile round-trip route into Tucquan Glen.
