Welcome to Stay Active. Our newsletter is tailored specifically for adults 55+ who want to live life to the fullest by staying physically, mentally, and socially engaged. Each issue is packed with information about programs, activities and events that will help you maintain an active lifestyle.

NEED A RIDE TO THE CRC?

Wheeling Township offers bus service for Wheeling Township residents Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Call 847-259-7743 between the hours of 9:00 am and 1:30 pm to schedule transportation. Reservations should be made two days before the travel date.

Jan and Gino bring you a nostalgic mix of classics from across the decades. Sing along and enjoy timeless tunes with this dynamic duo!

JULY 24 | BALLOON VOLLEYBALL – BAILEYTAINMENT

Get ready to bump, set, and laugh! Join Bailey for a light-hearted game of balloon volleyball—no experience needed, just bring your energy and a smile!

• 60 and older: $5 (suggested donation)

• 59 and younger: $8 Menu may change without notice.

Additional Guidelines:

• Register for meals one week in advance by calling Dining Coordinator, Michele Torres at 847-650-0650 or Social Services at 847-459-2606

• No walk-ins will be accepted

• In order to participate in events, participants must register for a meal in advance.

Funds (in whole/part) for the Lunch at the Center program were provided through an award from AgeOptions through grants from the Illinois Department on Aging and/or Administration for Community Living, U.S. Department of Health, and Human Services under Title III of the Older American Act. The suggested donation for the lunch is $5.00 per meal. No one will be turned away for inability to donate. The Village of Wheeling does not discriminate in admission to programs or activities of treatment of employment in compliance with appropriate State and Federal statutes

Join us as we celebrate our amazing social work intern, Bailey, in her final program! We’re sending her off in style with a fun-filled game of The Prize is Right! Come share some laughs, win some prizes, and help us give Bailey a memorable farewell!

Prepare for an unforgettable evening with Chris Minardi’s “One Man Jam Band” acoustic rock show! Featuring classics like “Brown Eyed Girl” and “Mellow Yellow,” along with hits from artists like James Taylor, The Beatles, and The Who, this show guarantees a fun sing-along experience.

Are you a fan of Doris Day, Billie Holiday, Carole King, Patsy Cline, and The Mamas and The Papas? Then you’ll love Lisa Marie, whose timeless voice and vibrant charm bring these classics to life in a heartwarming musical journey!

SEPTEMBER 4 | SENIOR MEDICARE PATROL PRESENTATION – JESUS ENRIQUEZ

Join Jesus Enriquez as he highlights the importance of preventing, detecting, and reporting Medicare & Medicaid fraud. Learn how the Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) Program empowers consumers to protect themselves from fraud, waste, and abuse with the help of dedicated volunteers and staff .

SEPTEMBER 11 | PATRIOT DAY – REBECCA RIVERA

As we remember the tragedies of 2001 and pay tribute to those we lost, music serves as a powerful medium for healing. The greatest hits of Rebeca Rivera provide a comforting and uplifting experience, aiding us in coping with the pain and sorrow brought on by these events.

ACTIVE ADULT GROUP EXERCISE CLASSES

The District offers Silver Sneakers, Stay Fit, Zumba Gold, and Aqua Fit classes with a Health & Fitness Center Membership. Check our website for the most current Group Exercise class schedule or stop by our Health & Fitness Center.

TAI CHI

Find balance in mind and body this new Tai Chi class taught by Iron Eagle Tai Chi. This low-impact exercise that is often called “meditation with movement” due to its gentle nature and focus on joint health.

This group meets every week to work on a variety of craft projects for the community.

ONE HAPPY COOKIE BAKESHOP

Celebrate the start of fall with cookie decorating! In this beginner’s class, learn to decorate sugar cookies with royal icing under step-by-step guided instruction. Cookie designs are apple picking-themed and each participant will get their own set of vanilla cookies and icing bags. Skills taught in this class include working with tipless icing bags, outlining and flooding with royal icing, wet-on-wet techniques, working with thicker icing, and a very special wood-grain technique unique to this class!

SIP & SPRINKLE

Cozy up for sweater weather with this cookie decorating class! In this beginner’s class, learn to decorate sugar cookies with royal icing under step-by-step guided instruction. Cookie designs are pumpkin and sweater weather-themed and each participant will get their own set of vanilla cookies and icing bags. Skills taught in this class include working with tipless icing bags, outlining and flooding with royal icing, wet-on-wet techniques, working with detail icing, and a splatter technique with gold luster dust! Each participant will receive two glasses of wine and charcuterie.
