Welcome to Stay Active. Our newsletter is tailored specifically for adults 55+ who want to live life to the fullest by staying physically, mentally, and socially engaged. Each issue is packed with information about programs, activities and events that will help you maintain an active lifestyle.

NEED A RIDE TO THE CRC?

Wheeling Township offers bus service for Wheeling Township residents Monday through Friday, from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Call 847-259-7743 between the hours of 9:00 am and 1:30 pm to schedule transportation. Reservations should be made two days before the travel date.

Enjoy the day walking around the Brookfield Zoo! Lunch is on your own.

THE BURGER SOCIAL & TASTING DEVINE

We will start our day having lunch at The Burger Social at 11:30 am. After lunch, the group will spend the afternoon at Tasting DeVine to enjoy a glass of wine or a tasting! Lunch and beverages are on your own

ARLINGTON HTS. HISTORICAL MUSEUM & KILWINS ICE CREAM

Spend the afternoon touring the Arlington Heights Historical Museum, and then we’ll head to Kilwins Ice Cream for a sweet treat! Ice cream is on your own.

THE MORTON ARBORETUM

Spend the day at the Morton Arboretum! This trip includes a bus tour of the property and time to explore while walking around. Participants may eat lunch at Ginkgo Restaurant and Café. Lunch is on your own.

Test your luck at the Hard Rock Casino in Rockford! Lunch is on your own.

SANFILIPPO ESTATE TOUR

This Docent-Guided Tour is approximately 3 hours long and will start at 1:30 pm. We will view the Sanfilippo Collection and hear a selection of music machines. The tour also includes the American Orchestrion Room, Victorian Bar Room, Paris Passageway, and 1890 General Store Gallery. Be sure to eat lunch before the trip.

DRURY LANE: ALWAYS PATSY CLINE

Friendship, heartache, and country music featuring 27 of Patsy Cline’s biggest hits, this is the ultimate love letter to one of the most celebrated and influential performers of the 20th century. Show time is 1:30-3:30 pm including intermission. Snacks and drinks are available for purchase. Be sure to eat lunch before the trip.

LAKE GENEVA BOAT TOUR: U.S. MAILBOAT

The 75-foot Walworth delivers mail and newspapers by moving between the docks and getting close enough to the pier for the Mailperson to jump off the moving boat, deposit the mail in the mailbox, grab outgoing mail, and jump back onto the boat. The boat tour is 10:00 am-12:30 pm. After the boat tour, you will have time to grab lunch at a local restaurant downtown and explore. Lunch is on your own.

Spend the morning picking strawberries at Heider’s Berry Farm! The group will stop for lunch on the way home. Lunch and strawberry picking fees are not included.

Spend the afternoon walking around Downtown Grayslake and shopping at the farmers market!

BREWERS VS CUBS BASEBALL GAME

Spend the afternoon at the American Family Field! Tickets are general admission and game time is 1:10 pm. Lunch is on your own.

This group meets every week to work on a variety of craft projects for the community.

Celebrate International Jazz Day with recording artist Abigail Riccards! Enjoy the captivating sounds of Abigail Riccards as she performs your favorite Jazz, Swing, and Latin classics.

• No walk-ins will be accepted

• In order to participate in events, participants must register for a meal in advance.

Funds (in whole/part) for the Lunch at the Center program were provided through an award from AgeOptions through grants from the Illinois Department on Aging and/or Administration for Community Living, U.S. Department of Health, and Human Services under Title III of the Older American Act. The suggested donation for the lunch is $5.00 per meal. No one will be turned away for inability to donate. The Village of Wheeling does not discriminate in admission to programs or activities of treatment of employment in compliance with appropriate State and Federal statutes

We’re excited to welcome back Jeff Dewbray, a versatile Chicagoland vocalist, to Lucky Entertainment! He performs hits from the Rat Pack to today across various genres, including Pop, Rock, Motown, Dance, and Country. With high-quality backing tracks, his performances sound like the original artists. Jeff can also enhance his sets with acoustic guitar or keyboards. His engaging style will leave guests wanting more—truly a lucky find for us!

DROP-IN PICKLEBALL

Location: Community Recreation Center

The Wheeling Park District Drop-In Pickleball Program is ideal for recreational players who want to stay active, have fun, and socialize in a relaxed environment. It’s perfect for the casual player who enjoys the game without the pressure of serious competition. All skill levels are welcome—just bring your enthusiasm for a good time! Games are played to 11, win by 2, and when others are waiting, please rotate off the court after your match. You’re encouraged to mix it up and play with different partners, though you can also paddle up with your own foursome. We look forward to seeing you on the court!

A daily fee is required to play, but for those who are committed and love to drop in more often, we also offer convenient punch pass and membership options!

Sip some wine and enjoy this beginner-friendly decorating class led by Jamie from One Happy Cookie Bakeshop! Each participant will receive a set of vanilla cookies, icing bags, a royal icing transfer, and a take-home tray. Fee includes 2 wine drink tickets and charcuterie. Must be 21+ to attend.
