Chicago Poison Banquet

Monday, February 10 Historian Tara Cajacob uncovers a tale of gilded-age intrigue from 1916, when hundreds of Chicago's most illustrious residents were poisoned at a banquet. The discovery of arsenic in the soup triggered a nation-wide manhunt to find the “Anarchist Chef”.

Valentine’s Day Party

Friday, February 14 Celebrate the special people in your life during our Valentine’s Day Party. Enjoy the beautiful music of Michael Duke in his debut performance at our program.

Winter Bingo

Wednesday, February 19 Join us for a fun afternoon of winter-themed bingo and hot cocoa.

Mardi Gras Celebration

Monday, February 24 Enjoy this most colorful festival with the best of bands and fun mix of musical genres. A little jazz, R&B, big band, Latin, disco, country, oldies, funk, blues, Motown, rock and dance music are all brought to you by Sandi Haynes and the Blue Rocket Band!

Classic Crooners (Ladies Edition)

Monday, March 9 The golden age of music brought a wealth of female talent into the spotlight including Rosemary Clooney, Pattie Page, Doris Day, Lena Horne and more! John Boda will share the memories through a brief history and on-screen photos along with a selection of songs such as “Tennessee Waltz”, “Stormy Weather”, “Who’s Sorry Now”, “Hey There” and several more.

Songs You’ve Requested

Wednesday, March 11 Heather Braoudakis has kept track of the songs you’ve asked her to sing over the years. She’s compiled all of your special requests into one performance including “Sunrise Sunset”, “Embraceable You”, “Somewhere My Love”, “Stardust” and more.

Thursday, March 19 Officer Scott Laverd from the Wheeling Police Department shares information on the latest scams and ways to prevent becoming a victim.

Searching for South America

Wednesday, April 8 Brian Michalski is back in the States to give you an armchair travel presentation of his teaching year in South America. He will share dozens of stunning photos and tales of his adventures trekking the Inca Trail, navigating pristine Patagonia, exploring the Amazon rainforest and much more.

Hooray for Hollywood

Friday, April 17 Join Heather Braoudakis for a trip down memory lane through Oscar-winning songs of the ’30s, ‘40s and ‘50s as well as your favorite classic movies.

How to Stay Active in the Community Recreation Center

Wednesday, April 22 Bella, Recreation Service Manager from the Wheeling Park District will be stopping by lunch to discuss programs, events and other opportunities to get involved right here in the Community Recreation Center!

Princess Di: Gone But Still Kicking!

Monday, April 27 Paradise Playhouse presents an original one-woman musical about the iconic figure of Princess Diana Spencer whose death in 1997 shocked the world. Jillann Gabrielle channels her from the grave as a spirit haunting the halls of Kensington Palace.The Princess cut a deal with St. Peter at heaven’s gate allowing her to stay with her sons at the palace but she would no longer be young. Diana’s sense of humor and piano playing, singing and dancing skills are all showcased in this entertaining production that tells the story of her personal and public life and the British Royal Monarchy…then AND now!

St. Patrick’s Day Party

Tuesday, March 17 It’s time to have a sham-rocking good time at our St. Patrick’s Day celebration! Enjoy a delicious lunch followed by a special St. Patrick’s Day performance by Ray Forlenza, who will be performing for us for the first time. Don’t forget to wear your green.

1950s Trivia

Wednesday, March 18 Do you remember the 1950s? If so, put on your thinking caps and get ready to answer questions about the ‘50s. Our “Game Hostess” for the afternoon is Daniellah from Assisting Hands. This event is sponsored by Assisting Hands ® Home Care.

New Decade, New Digs for Dining! On Monday, March 2, the Wheeling Park District will unveil the permanent home of congregate dining at the Community Recreation Center. Staff is excited to welcome you to this bright, new space!
