Lower School Instilling life-long joy in learning Creatively planned and enthusiastically delivered by teachers who thoroughly know and deeply understand every student, education in Wheeler’s Lower School is joyful, engaging, individualized, and not remotely off-theshelf. There’s an irresistible, crackling energy that connects common spaces, playgrounds, fields, and classrooms. Looking into any of our Early Childhood classrooms, you’re as likely to see teachers on their hands and knees as you are the kids: working with gears and pulleys, singing songs that build vocabulary, or using blocks to teach beginning math concepts. Across the Lower School, play and exploration come together to create an environment in which kids look forward to learning—and to joyfully recounting each moment to their parents at the end of each day. This is especially true every Friday, when the Nursery, Pre-K, and Kindergarten classes spend the day on our Farm campus, where fields, forests, and ponds become their classrooms. Birds, clouds, insects, and breezes replace pencils and work tables. Weather, seasons, migration, soil types, plant cycles—all are experienced firsthand.
