After more than a century without them, Carmel-by-the-Sea is officially moving toward adopting traditional street addresses. The City Council voted unanimously to approve the change, marking the end of the town’s long-standing practice of identifying homes by names and landmarks rather than numbers. The decision comes in response to growing concerns about emergency response times, delivery challenges, and the limitations of modern technology systems that rely on precise addresses A community working group helped shape the plan, gathering input from residents, first responders, and local businesses to ensure a smooth transition. While Carmel will continue to celebrate its charming home names and post office traditions, the addition of formal addresses signals a thoughtful step toward balancing the town’s unique character with modern convenience.

What we’ve been up to:
Hollister Renaissance Fair

This weekend, Avery and I attended our very first Renaissance Festival out in Hollister and what a show it was! We arrived about an hour after the gates opened at 11 AM, which turned out to be perfect timing since parking was still easy to find.
Once inside, we caught the Sirens Show at the beer garden and even joined a sword-fighting tutorial (definitely a highlight!) I hadn’t eaten yet, so naturally, our next stop was the turkey leg stand because what’s a Renaissance fair without one?
Since it was the festival’s final weekend and so close to Halloween, the whole place was buzzing with energy. There was trick-or-treating for kids, and nearly everyone came in costume. Many of the vendors sold incredible handcrafted goods like mugs, bags, and jewelry, and it was inspiring to see so much local creativity and talent on display If you plan to go next year, I recommend arriving right at opening or before noon By the time we left around 2 PM, it was packed! I also heard that when the fair closes at 6 PM, traffic getting out can be quite the challenge.
Thank you for reading! Watch out for my next issue, hitting your inbox in two weeks. Talk soon!
