Carmel Valley is coming together to build Tatum’s Treehouse, an inclusive playground at the Community Youth Center for children of all abilities. Named after Tatum Bakker, a young girl with spina bifida, the project aims to provide a space where all children and families can play together. This will be the second such playground in Monterey County, after Tatum’s Garden in Salinas, built in 2013. A collaboration between the Tatum’s Garden Foundation and the Community Youth Center, the playground is set to be completed by Sunday, with volunteers still needed to help. What we’ve been up to:
Big Sur River Inn

Last week brought a special surprise another visitor in town! This time, it was my dad, all the way from Flagstaff, Arizona He came to spend time with Avery and I, and we wanted to make the most of his visit by doing something none of us had ever experienced before After some thought, we decided to head to the Big Sur River Inn, a charming spot tucked along the stunning Big Sur coastline
The inn is perfectly nestled in a serene wooded area, with the Big Sur River quietly flowing just behind it What makes this place so unique is the opportunity to combine great food with nature in the most delightful way. You can grab delicious bites from the inn’s restaurant, either dining indoors or taking your meal to-go to enjoy right in the river. Yes, in the river! Chairs are set up in the cool, shallow waters, letting you savor your meal while the gentle current flows around you.
It was a one-of-a-kind experience peaceful, fun, and filled with laughter. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to spend the day. If you’re ever in the area, this hidden gem is a must-visit. We’re already looking forward to going back! -Cody Wheeler
