Construction Corner

The Green at 38th

The Green at 38th is a new park and community gathering space between Stevens Elementary and 38th Avenue, with a Grand Opening event on Saturday, September 6th. The project replaced the Stevens parking lot and constructed park amenities including the outdoor stage, playground, promenade, fire pit, seating, landscaping, and more. Grant funders contributing to the project included the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA), Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO), the Colorado Department of Transportation, the Colorado State Forest Service, the Gates Family Foundation, and Waste Management.

Happiness Gardens Expansion

Investing grant funding from the Colorado Gives Foundation, Happiness Gardens expanded by ~6,000 square feet with expanded irrigation, fruit trees, native plants, and a therapeutic/sensory garden. Rental plots at the Gardens are available annually, more information here: rootedinfun.com/ happinessgardens.

Hayward Park Trail Replacement

The former 6’-wide asphalt walking trail through Hayward Park was replaced in summer 2025 with an 8’-wide concrete trail with soft surface shoulders. Jefferson County Open Space provided grant funding towards the project through their Trails Partnership Program.

Panorama Park Tennis and Basketball Courts Replacement

The circa-1950s tennis courts and basketball court are being fully replaced at Panorama Park, with support funding from the USTA. Expected completion is October 2025 and the project will also replace the lighting and seating while improving access and adding landscaping.

Introduction to American Canasta

Canasta, played like Rummy, is often a nostalgic game for seniors, easy to learn, and it encourages strategic thinking. Many people find Canasta easier than Bridge, so it might be a good starting point for seniors who have less experience with card games. Unlike Bridge, enough of the game can be learned in 20 minutes for beginners to play confidently at their first sitting. The cards themselves become instrument of enchantment, waving a spell of mental agility and strategic thinking. With every meld and discard, players engage their cognitive faculties, sharpening their minds like a wizard’s wand. Register by Aug 29 to let us know you are coming. Wheat Ridge Greenbelt

Wheat Ridge is home to 300 acres of open space land comprised primarily of the Wheat Ridge Greenbelt situated along Clear Creek. This preserved open space runs through the heart of Wheat Ridge and is one of the City’s greatest attractions. Boundaries begin west of Youngfield Street and end at Harlan Street. This stretch of the Greenbelt supports an abundance of native plants and wildlife and provides numerous recreation activities.
