FARO RCMP DETACHMENT Hello everyone from the Faro RCMP, hope everyone had a Happy Holiday Season. The Faro RCMP would like to thank everyone that attended the Open House earlier in December, 2016. We had a huge turn out and I can’t help but to refer it to a good ole east coast kitchen party. Thanks to everyone that attended. As you are all aware the RCMP have conducted a couple of traffic check stops within the Town of Faro. The primary focus of these check stops was to ensure proper vehicle safety was being followed which included checking for the consumption of alcohol by drivers and to ensure everyone had proper documentation on hand in accordance with Yukon Territorial Legislation. The Faro RCMP is pleased to report that even though we were very cold everything checked out great. So on behalf of the Faro RCMP we like to thank the people of Faro for keeping everything in check and thanks to those that opened the door so we could warm our face. Cst DRAPEAU and Cst MACLEAN would love to thank everyone for making the Learn To Skate Program a hit. Every week we have seen an increase in children coming out to the Learn To Skate Program. So much so we had to solicit the help of some of our youth to help facilitate the program. The Faro RCMP would like to thank everyone that volunteered to make this a success. The Faro RCMP would like to take this opportunity to emphasize on snowmobile safety. Everyone is required to wear a helmet while within the town boundaries so please do so. The helmets DO SAVE LIVES and given my line of work I have seen what happens to people who don’t wear helmets. If you are going to be operating your snowmobile in around the roadways of Faro you MUST have valid registration, insurance and drivers license. So please have them on hand in case the Faro RCMP requests it. If you don’t have the documentation on hand you could possibly receive a fine. This also brings up another point. The Faro RCMP will not tolerate anyone operating a snowmobile while impaired by alcohol/drugs. Even if you are not on the road it is offence to operate a snowmobile while impaired. The Faro RCMP have 2 brand new sleds to break in so we will be out patrolling the trails and actively looking for those that choose to operate their snowmobile while impaired by alcohol/drugs. I will say charges will be pursued if caught. It has been brought to the Faro RCMP attention that the waterways are particularly unpredictable this year. Please exercise extra caution if you are venturing out on the ice whether that is on foot or on your snow machine. Plan in advance and we recommend leaving a trip plan at our office of the day you leave, return and the area in which you will be exploring. All in all it has been a great year and Faro and the RCMP look forward to serving the Town of Faro in 2017.

Cst Byron MACLEAN Faro RCMP *****************************************************************************

To contact Faro RCMP in an emergency, call 911. These calls will be answered by Whitehorse OCC who will have officers respond to the call. For general inquiries in the community, call 994-2677. If there is no answer, please phone 994-5555 and an officer will be contacted. ***************************************************************************** Faro Detachment would like to remind members of the community about our Emergency Phone located at the front entrance to the Detachment. This phone line is connected directly to Whitehorse RCMP dispatch. The caller only has to hold the phone to their ear and someone from Whitehorse Dispatch will answer. This will ensure a quicker response from Faro RCMP members.

TINTINA GUN CLUB NEWSLETTER Greetings, For all you shooting enthusiasts the access road to the range has been plowed courtesy of Bernie Grant. You still have a few days to make use of the range and club house this year. Remember to bring some firewood if you plan to use the wood stove. Bernie has offered to keep the road plowed through the winter as a favor to the club. Pass on your appreciation to Bernie next time you see him! Your key for the gate will still work for another week or so until a new lock has been purchased. The executive had decided to purchase programmable combination locks rather than keep purchasing new locks for the gate and clubhouse. The combination can be changed year to year which is an improvement over keyed locks. A membership renewal/application form must be filled out, signed and turned in when you renew your membership. As Ray is away for a few months please see either Tina Henderson or myself for membership renewals. Also, the club has had to increase our annual membership fees to $50/single or $75/family (of up to four). This was necessary to cover the cost of club insurance plus ensure sufficient funds are left for club and range maintenance.

Our annual meeting has been set for Monday January 16th at 7:30pm in the Rec Center Youth Lounge This would be a good time to renew your membership and get the combination for the gate and clubhouse locks. Your attendance is important as there are several important issues we need to decide upon. LONG RANGE PRECISION SHOOTING WORKSHOP Percy Andrews has agreed to put on a precision long range shooting workshop. Early May works best for Percy, probably a Saturday. That way we can hold the workshop at the range and have some range time too. For those who don’t know Percy, he is an accomplished precision shooter with competitive experience. This would be great time to learn more about the equipment, reloading tips and shooting techniques. Watching Percy shoot golf balls out at a distance of several hundred meters is a treat! Jack Bowers, President

THANK YOU!

On behalf of all of the children we also send a heartfelt thank you to Santa for taking time out of his busy schedule to visit us in Faro!

FARO YOUTH HOCKEY AND LEARN TO SKATE Will soon be having our annual bottle drive Watch for posters! Please leave out refundables such as cans, bottles, and juice containers (please no milk cartons). The money we raise goes towards paying for our ice time rental so that we can keep the fees charged to the youth at a very minimum. Thank you for your support!

Miscellaneous

LOOK UP January 3, 4 - Quadrantids Meteor Shower. The Quadrantids is an above average shower, with up to 40 meteors per hour at its peak. It is thought to be produced by dust grains left behind by an extinct comet known as 2003 EH1, which was discovered in 2003. The shower runs annually from January 1-5. It peaks this year on the night of the 3rd and morning of the 4th. The second quarter moon will block out all but the brightest meteors this year, but it could still be a good show if you are patient. Best viewing will be from a dark location after midnight. Meteors will radiate from the constellation Bootes, but can appear anywhere in the sky. January 10 - New Moon. The Moon will located on the same side of the Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. This phase occurs at 01:30 UTC. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere. January 24 - Full Moon. The Moon will be located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be will be fully illuminated. This phase occurs at 01:46 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Full Wolf Moon because this was the time of year when hungry wolf packs howled outside their camps. This moon has also been know as the Old Moon and the Moon After Yule.
