Regulations have changed, only a doctor can renew your prescription.

Doctors’ clinics happen approximately every 2 weeks, are frequently fully booked. It takes 1 week for your medications to come from Whitehorse by mail.

With your help in these areas, we can all have a successful doctor clinic.

Reminder: The sun in the Yukon sometimes does not seem very hot but exposure to UV rays and sunburns are occurring. Using an SPF 25 or greater sunscreen can help, but reapplication is necessary.

Follow instructions on the bottle. The best treatment of sunburn is Aloe Vera Gel, other products can be used. Sunburn needs treatment just like other burns do. STOP the burn with cool water not cold, and do not use butter, lard, Vaseline or Ozenol type ointment, as they hold the heat of the burn, creating more damage.

If you have questions, check your Yukon Health Guide, or check the internet for information on sunburns.

This is also the time to remember boat safety by wearing life jackets, not sitting on them. Wear properly fitted helmets while riding bicycles and ATV’s. Helmets must be adjusted to fit and must protect the forehead.

Mosquito season has started. If using repellant, please follow application directions.

For those people who have severe allergies that would need an Epi-pen please check the expiry date.

Friendship Feasts is a made in Faro program, it is not affiliated with Social Services, the Faro Health Centre, or any government program. If you are able to make a meal for a family once in a while, please get yourself on the Friendship Feast list. You may get called once in 6 months.

To receive meals, you just need to nominate yourself or someone who you know needs meals. Generally, Friendship Feasts provides meals when there has been a death or other hardship in the family, when someone is recovering from an operation or sickness, or when a family brings home a new baby. Getting involved in Friendship Feasts is a great way to get involved in our community and to meet people in town in a meaningful way.

Please remember- someone must call on your behalf or you can call to ask for meals. Our volunteers do not make meals unless we have been asked. If you are not on the list, please call KARA WENT at 994-3114 to sign yourself up!

We are always looking for new folks who are able to provide a meal.

IMPORTANT NUMBERS

Campfire Safety Fire prevention is a responsibility all of us share. It is important to understand safe fire practices so that everyone can enjoy Yukon's forests. The following are some tips for both residents and recreationalists that will help to prevent damage or injury from an out-of-control fire.

When building your campfire, keep these things in mind: - Choose your site carefully - Prepare your campfire by removing all leaves, twigs and other flammable material from the area - Use a designated fire pit or build a ring of rocks at least five metres from structures and tents - Keep your fire under control and prevent it from sparking into surrounding bushes and tress - Never leave your campfire unattended When extinguishing your campfire: - Pour water on the fire and douse the site thoroughly - Stir the campfire until there are no embers and the ashes are cold to the touch. If necessary, douse again.

During the spring and fall, many Yukoners take the opportunity to clear their property by burning dead trees, leaves and debris from around their property. If done properly, this can be very effective.

Always make sure to keep these tips in mind when doing any sort of backyard or debris burning: - Always burn during a safe time of year, in the fall or just after green-up in the spring - Never burn under windy conditions or when conditions are hot and dry - Stay with the fire until it is completely out - Keep a hose and hand tools nearby to extinguish your fire - Avoid burning near buildings, trees or grass - Keep your fire at a controllable size - Remember to obtain a burning permit before taking on any sort of burning

Crane and Sheep Festival Tis the first week of May, and all through Faro People are coming, for to view nature’s show.

The streets have been cleaned, of winter’s debris The camp ground is ready, for tourists you see.

The town has awakened, like flowers in spring It’s really amazing, what longer days bring.

It’s time to catch up, and visit with friends So much to do, before this weekend ends.

Hikes have been planned, out and about A talent show, you could twist and shout.

Of course, we have a barbeque planned And potluck it is, so very grand.

With Princess Karina, and her friends from Whitehorse Who are they? The Snowshoe Shufflers of course!

The visitors center, is ready once more Swept out the cobwebs, opened their door.

People are meeting, there=s commotion and clatter Crane and Sheep Fest, has arrived like mad hatter.

Passing each year, making their way Their nesting grounds, Alaska they say.

We’re but a stop, on their journey of life They gracefully fly, no struggle or strife.

The weekend had ended, another fest past Wonders of nature, in memories last.

Day old lambs, white as the snow Fannin Sheep, really put on a show.

If you are lucky, you may see one born All cuddly and soft, before they grow horn.

All watch as they scamper, frolic and play On the edge of a cliff, that just fades away.

Where most skilled of climbers, would hesitate They have no fear, well not of this fate.

They develop the skills, they need to survive Mom’s watching on, no need to contrive.

Ewes do not worry, as they play on the cliff Dangers they fear, is something they sniff.

There are the rams, they survey their domain The Kings of a ragged and rugged terrain.

They pose for our photos, curls in plain view Majestically standing, as if there on queue…………

THE SHED - FOLD AND CODE The Shed is available 24/7 for anyone who wants to leave and/or take good used clothing.

Please do not smoke do not smoke in the shed; the do not smoke odour penetrates the clothes and smoking can be a fire hazard.

FARO RCMP DETACHMENT It’s great to see folks out enjoying the spring weather!

A special thank-you & congratulations go out to Sabine Heigl & the Town of Faro for organizing a successful Sheep & Crane Festival. The festival was filled with education sessions by knowledgeable presenters, outdoor touring activities, and great food. RCMP members helped out with the tours & flipping bison burgers. Cpl. Watson wore her tiara & gown as Miss Town of Faro & she provided live entertainment to all by citing her Sheep & Crane poem. We would like to thank all volunteers & contributors to this Festival including the Snowshoe Shufflers from Whitehorse.

We are very fortunate to live in ATV and dirt bike country. The Yukon Government made recent changes to Helmet regulations while operating an ATV under Section 46(1) of the Motor Vehicles Act. The operator & passenger(s) must now wear a helmet. RCMP will be enforcing this legislation. Let’s be safe on the roads & trails.

During the community clean up a cell phone was found in the area of Mayo & Hoole Street. If you have lost your cell phone please drop by the detachment. We have received complaints of people playing on the school roof. This is a dangerous act and people can be injured. Police will not tolerate these actions and will be charging individuals for mischief if located on the school roof.

Bears have been reported to be in & around town again. A gentle reminder to folks not to keep house hold garbage in your backyard but place your garbage in the Municipal dumpsters. These dumpsters are emptied on a regular basis and will help prevent having a bear in your yard. If you do see a bear in the community you can report it to Conservation Officer Pete Gibson at 867.994.2862.

We hosted the Police Week barbeque & a farewell gathering for Cst. Gossen & his family before they transfer to Saskatchewan. The weather was great & the barbeque was well attended. S/Sgt. Brad Kaeding stopped in for a quick visit. We would like to thank George ZIENKIEWICZ & Jim MCMYNN for their baking. The squares and banana bread were delicious. We thank you all for coming, sharing your stories & for all the good laughs.

The annual bike rodeo was held and Cpl. Watson helped out at the event. The youth had a great time and they learned a lot about bike safety. Good job! Cst. Gossen was involved with REM and presented Bully talks to youth.

The Faro RCMP conducted check stops apart of the National Road Safety Week. There were 22 Officer/Driver contacts & a couple of violation tickets issued. Please be mindful of your highway speeds as we are seeing an increase in speeds by drivers.

1. Final Recognition Assembly - This 45 minute ceremony recognizes and celebrates the unique awesomeness of every child in the school, giving each child their moment in the sun. Some student performances will be featured and a small number of major awards will be given out.

Campbell Region Interpretive Center YUKON ENERGY We have two planned power outages coming up for people in some parts of Faro.

These outages will affect the Faro airport and residents of the Tintina subdivision.

Each outage will last about 15 or 20 minutes.

The first outage will take place on Tuesday, June 7th at some point between 8:30 and 11:30 a.m.

The second outage is scheduled for Thursday, June 9th at some point between 2 and 8 p.m.

The outages are necessary so we can safely work on our transmission system.

Miscellaneous LOOK UP June 3 - Saturn at Opposition. The ringed planet will be at its closest approach to Earth and its face will be fully illuminated by the Sun. It will be brighter than any other time of the year and will be visible all night long. This is the best time to view and photograph Saturn and its moons. A medium-sized or larger telescope will allow you to see Saturn's rings and a few of its brightest moons.

June 5 - New Moon. The Moon will located on the same side of the Earth as the Sun and will not be visible in the night sky. This phase occurs at 02:59 UTC. This is the best time of the month to observe faint objects such as galaxies and star clusters because there is no moonlight to interfere.

June 5 - Mercury at Greatest Western Elongation. The planet Mercury reaches greatest western elongation of 24.2 degrees from the Sun. This is the best time to view Mercury since it will be at its highest point above the horizon in the morning sky. Look for the planet low in the eastern sky just before sunrise.

June 20 - Full Moon. The Moon will be located on the opposite side of the Earth as the Sun and its face will be will be fully illuminated. This phase occurs at 11:02 UTC. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Full Strawberry Moon because it signaled the time of year to gather ripening fruit. It also coincides with the peak of the strawberry harvesting season. This moon has also been known as the Full Rose Moon and the Full Honey Moon.

Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees lightly oil a 9x13 pan

For crust: in stand mixer, or by hand: 2 cups flour 1 cup rolled oats 1/2 cup cold butter cut into pieces 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon salt

mix together until the texture of frozen peas. press firmly into pan and set aside

for filling: 6 eggs 1 3/4 cup granulated sugar 1 cup orange juice 1/4 cup flour whisk all above ingredients together well... then stir in 3 cups of fresh rhubarb- chopped pour over crust. bake 45 minutes to 1 hour until center is firm. Cool completely before cutting.

I want to sincerely thank the Del Van Gorder School Council, the Principal, Staff and Students, and the anonymous donor for naming the new school playground after my husband, Wolf. I am deeply touched and I know that Wolf would feel very honoured to be recognized in this way. This honour has great significance for our family as Wolf's two daughters, Shanti and Linde, attended school at Del Van Gorder.

And, over the years, many school classes came to our farm for field trips. Wolf always enjoyed the students, both the young ones and the teenagers, and he could always make them laugh!
