Friendship Feasts is a made in Faro program, it is not affiliated with Social Services, the Faro Health Centre, or any government program. If you are able to make a meal for a family once in a while, please get yourself on the Friendship Feast list. You may get called once in 6 months. To receive meals, you just need to nominate yourself or someone who you know needs meals. Generally, Friendship Feasts provides meals when there has been a death or other hardship in the family, when someone is recovering from an operation or sickness, or when a family brings home a new baby. Getting involved in Friendship Feasts is a great way to get involved in our community and to meet people in town in a meaningful way.

Please remember- someone must call on your behalf or you can call to ask for meals. Our volunteers do not make meals unless we have been asked. If you are not on the list, please call KARA WENT at 994-3114 to sign yourself up! We are always looking for new folks who are able to provide a meal.

FARO RCMP DETACHMENT Happy October Faro!! There have been a few changes around the Faro RCMP Detachment since the last edition of the Frozen Mukluk in August. Cpl. Ryan HACK and his family have left and are settling into their new home in Haines Junction. The new corporal, that would be me, has arrived. My name is Cpl. Karina WATSON and I come to you from a four year stint in Old Crow. I look forward to getting to know everyone and becoming a part of your community. I have 25 years of service with the RCMP, so yes I am older than I look because I did not join the RCMP when I was 5. I have two children, Dyna, a 9 year old Black lab and a 3 month old Chocolate lab that I am still trying to name, right now she thinks her name is “brown dog”. My husband, Lee, lives in Whitehorse because he works for Northwest Tel. Please don’t hold that against him, because he really is a nice guy, or at least I think so! Feel free to stop by the office for a coffee, a visit or to let me know your concerns. I look forward to working with you to ensure Faro continues to be a place where people feel safe and want to raise their families. Now I will let Cst. Rob DRAPEAU say a few things. The Terry Fox run was a big success, with the Faro youth representing very well! A few reminders from the Mounties as we head into the fall: Prepare for the cold weather by equipping your vehicle with warm gear, blankets and survival gear prior to making your next trip. Dress for the cold and be prepared for anything. The check in plan is always a good practice. Tell a family member or a friend what time you are departing and then call when you arrive at your destination. It’s time for snow tires! Traditionally the first snow storm of the year is the busiest time for fender benders and car accidents. Let’s try to get by without any regrets. The Robert Campbell Highway will soon be snow covered lets ensure that we reduce our driving speeds to reflect the road conditions. Halloween is just around the corner so let us take the time to ensure it is a fun and safe Halloween by replacing burnt out exterior lights so that youth have easy access to your front door. We ask that motorists driving on Halloween night to watch for very enthusiastic youth running across roads and darting out from behind parked cars and other obstructions. In addition when you are planning the costumes for your little ones please keep in mind visibility and if you are unable to use vibrant colours please try and add reflective strips, glow sticks or flashlights. The RCMP will be out on patrol on Halloween night and will be handing out delicious candy. Have a fun and safe Halloween!!! See you out there! The Faro RCMP will be conducting impaired driving check stops in the coming weeks. A person charged with Impaired driving face many legislative obstacles including losing the privilege to hold a valid driver’s license, not being able to operate a motor vehicle, costly fines, and alcohol ignition interlock programs. If you are planning on going out and having a couple of drinks consider arranging for a ride home. The Yukon government has identified enforcement of impaired operation laws as a priority in our Territory. The Detachment Garden Gnome will be hiding out around town again this fall, please keep your eyes open for him and help one of our youngsters help with bringing him back to the RCMP detachment for a reward. Enjoy the fall!!! To contact Faro RCMP in an emergency, call 994-5555 or 1-867-667-5555. These calls will be answered by Whitehorse OCC who will have officers respond to the call. For general inquiries in the community, call 994-2677. If there is no answer, please phone 994-5555 and an officer will be contacted. Faro Detachment would like to remind members of the community about our Emergency Phone located at the front entrance to the Detachment. This phone line is connected directly to Whitehorse RCMP dispatch. The caller only has to hold the phone to their ear and someone from Whitehorse Dispatch will answer. This will ensure a quicker response from Faro RCMP members.

EXPRESSION OF INTEREST FOR STANDARD FIRST AID COURSE EMERGENCY MEDICAL RESPONDER COURSE BABYSITTERS COURSE Yukon College, and I as an instructor, are seeking to compile a list of names of those interested in taking the (SFA) standard first aid course (16 hrs) and (EMR) emergency medical responder course (80 hrs) this winter. A Babysitter's Course, i.e. first aid as it applies to this role, is also being considered. New requirements demand we have at least 8 students per course and that each student register at least 1 week in advance of the course. Once we see how many are interested, dates will be confirmed. Tentatively, an SFA course is planned for October, an EMR for February, and a Babysitting course by the end of the year. Please call Yukon College (994-8800) to express your interest in taking any of these courses. A heads-up, tuition has increased for the SFA course so applying to the Campbell Region Training Fund will need to be done well in advance of the desired courses. PUMPKIN FRENCH TOAST BAKE Sweet and spicy pumpkin french toast is made the night before for an easy, early-morning preparation.

Ingredients 5 1/2 - 7 1/2 cups 1-inch bread cubes (depending on type of bread)* 7 large eggs 2 cups milk (any kind)* 1 tsp vanilla extract 1 1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice 1/4 cup pumpkin BUTTER (or 1/2 cup pumpkin puree)* 3-4 tablespoons brown sugar for topping nuts, like pecan or walnuts (optional)

Instructions -Cut any kind of bread into 1-inch cubes - I recommend a crusty, whole grain variety, but sandwich bread will work, too. Just use enough slice to fill a lightly greased 9x13 baking dish quite full. -In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla, pumpkin butter and pie spice until well combined. Pour over bread and push down with a spoon or your hands until it's all soaked and mostly covered. Cover with saran wrap or lid and refrigerate overnight. -In the morning, preheat oven to 350 degrees, uncover and top with brown sugar, additional pumpkin pie spice and nuts (optional). Bake for 35-45 minutes or golden brown and no longer wet. -Serve immediately with maple syrup, honey or agave nectar. Store leftovers in the refrigerator covered for up to a couple days.
