“Jump For Joy”

There were wonderful times in our life when we had the good fortune to feel; tickled pink to be so lucky, grateful we earned recognition, over the moon, head over heels in love which could have moved us to jump for joy.

There were times we had the feeling we were on top of the world, walking on air, in seventh heaven which could have moved us to jump for joy.

Could the longer days of sunlight with the warmth of Spring and Summer embracing us with delicious fresh air be enough to have us jump for joy?

Stay safe and cool this summer – tips for extreme heat preparedness

Summer is just around the corner. As many of us look forward to warmer temperatures and longer days, now is the time to prepare for extreme heat and make your emergency plan so you and your loved ones can stay safe and cool all summer long.

Stay safe and cool indoors

• If you have air conditioning, invite friends and family over who may need to get cool.

• Don’t have air conditioning? Plan ahead and identify a friend’s home or community building where you can go to stay cool.

• Sleep in the coolest room of your home. Cover your bed with a damp sheet or wear a damp shirt.

• Drink plenty of water.

Identify an extreme heat buddy. Check in on family, friends and neighbours (especially older adults) to make sure they stay hydrated and spend time in cool spaces.

Stay safe and cool outdoors

• Lower your activity level. If possible, run errands early or late in the day when it’s cooler.

• NEVER leave children or pets in a parked car.

• Seek cooler, breezier outdoor areas, such as parks near water with lots of trees.

Know where to find information. Visit Weather.gc.ca for weather alerts. Explore PreparedBC.ca/ExtremeHeat for more information about extreme heat preparedness.

Remember, heat stroke is an emergency. Call your local emergency number if you, or someone you are caring for, displays symptoms such as rapid breathing and heartbeat, extreme thirst, and decreased urination with unusually dark yellow urine.
