It was always a great pleasure to welcome the late Peter Seabrook to the nursery, Peter had a passion for roses and over the years become a frequent visitor.
Back in 2021, a new rose caught Peter’s eye, at the Rochford’s International Rose trials, a climbing persica hybrid, a striking rose that displayed golden yellow blooms with a red centre. We are delighted to be launching this same rose for the coming season as ‘Peter’s Persica’ with a percentage of the sales price helping raise funds for the Seabrook Colegrave Foundation.
In addition to ‘Peter’s Persica’, we are introducing several other varieties that have performed well in our trials. These include ‘Golden Delicious’, a wonderful fragrant, golden-yellow HT from the breeder Weeks and ‘Orchid Romantica’, a fragrant pink floribunda bred by William Radnor in the United States. A welcome addition to our range of gift roses is ‘Ruby Red’, a red HT, and of course, there is ‘You’re My Everything’, the Rose of the Year for 2025, a lovely pink and cream HT.
Looking ahead, we continue to evaluate roses from breeders around the world to identify the new introductions of the future, ensuring only the very best are brought to market. By producing the best rose varieties to the highest quality, Whartons garden roses can be sold with confidence as all will make superb garden plants.
This year we’ve included a range of simple icons to provide more information about each variety the aim is to help with range and promotional planning and as an aid when advising customers.
It’s a source of great pride that all our roses are grown here in Norfolk, if you would like to take the opportunity to see our roses in production, especially in the summer when the fields are in full flower, please get in touch to arrange a date.

CLIMBING AND RAMBLING ROSES
What’s the difference between a climber and a rambling rose? Climbers have stiff growth more suited to formal training and repeat flower through summer into autumn.
Ramblers have longer more pliable lax growth and they tend to be more vigorous, most flower only once but make a great show. There are repeat flowering exceptions though and these are detailed below.

The Rose Society UK is a member of the World Federation of Rose Societies, and
members receive all newsletters and updates from WFRS and other member societies from around the world of roses.
