Jetts Accrington goes from strength to strength FOLLOWING months of construction work, Jetts Accrington opened the doors to its new extension which saw it double the gym floor space and deliver an even better experience for its fast-growing membership. Alongside more space to work out, the gym has added new equipment, a larger functional area, and a female only zone. Jetts Accrington owner Vikrant Rana said: “We were already the leading exercise facility in the local area but now, with our fresh new look, our upgraded offering, and a greater footprint, we are delighted to be providing an unrivalled gym experience to our members and the wider community. “The feedback that we have had from
our members has been fantastic and we’re now seeing it translate into our membership numbers which continue to increase on a daily basis as Accrington flocks to get its fitness fix at Jetts.” The Jetts 247 Fitness team has also brought its new, fresh approach to fitness to the site by matching high-quality facilities with bespoke programming, alongside embedding the latest technological innovations for its loyal community of members to enjoy including dedicated sports therapy rooms to enhance recovery and performance. Jetts Accrington is also one of the first UK clubs to launch J-SERIES, bespoke 30-minute small group HIIT sessions that
provide the ultimate full-body workout for members of every fitness level, and a new innovation from Jetts Australia as the brand continues to innovate to meet and exceed member demand. Since opening the new extension, Jetts Accrington has seen a significant increase in new members alongside exceptional feedback from the existing, loyal members that keep coming back for their fitness fix, making it the number one place to exercise in the area. James Garner, Jetts Fitness UK director, added: “The newly extended Accrington site is just the next step in the Jetts 247 Fitness UK brand evolution that makes us the most exciting and relevant option in the franchise fitness market.
“Now, as we look to grow the footprint of Jetts in the UK, we will use our latest enhancements pioneered at Brixton and our extension at Accrington alongside our full, turnkey support service that we provide to our franchisees to springboard into 2022 with a series of new openings planned throughout the year.” Since launching in the UK in 2017, the business has established a differentiated position with its push towards affordable, boutique gyms. Matching high-quality facilities with bespoke programming, Jetts is proud of the growing community of loyal and like-minded fitness enthusiasts that continue to join its 10 UK gyms.
Reaching new health seekers with whole-body EMS INDUSTRY reports show that when gyms reopened, fitness enthusiasts flocked back to their local gyms. While this is encouraging news, the one thing these reports often miss is the opportunity that has been created in the last year and a half. Large numbers of people have realised, during the pandemic, that they need to focus on their health and are still looking for suitable workout options to meet their specific needs. These are audiences that may otherwise not have considered stepping into a gym before the pandemic raised awareness of the importance of staying fit and healthy. Despite the myriad of digital options available, older age groups, those recovering from childbirth or injury or those who are unconditioned and sedentary, often struggle to find fitness options or personal trainers who can develop safe, effective workouts for their needs. The interest is there, but the options are limited. Electrical Muscle Stimulation training is perfect for these sorts of special populations. Used for decades by sports scientists and experts for rehabilitation, this form of training it is also perfect for postnatal and injury recovery. EMS devices offer the same benefits as a high intensity workout, but without the impact or stress on the joints. Using electrical impulses, an EMS device does this by mimicking the natural signal sent by the brain to the muscles, but more powerfully. One 20-minute session, once per week
can activate up to 98 per cent of muscle fibres, compared to just 60 per cent in conventional training methods. Sessions are always one-on-one, maximum one-on-two, so there’s no intimidating gym floor or group exercise studio for people who don’t like the typical gym environment. Similarly, for people still concerned about Covid-safety, it lends itself naturally to social distancing For older groups or those who may be new to exercise, EMS is a full-body, low-impact workout that is accessible, completely safe and scientifically proven to reduce sarcopenia. With a dedicated EMS PT, there is a very short learning curve and very low chance of injury in a workout that uses slow, controlled movements while a
machine activates the muscle fibres. There is no additional stress on the tendons, ligaments or joints also making EMS a perfect workout option for those recovering from injury, helping them quickly get back to the activities or sports they love. EMS training is also highly effective for alleviating back pain as it activates deep seated spinal muscles, ideal for those who have suffered back pain following periods of inactivity during the pandemic. These same benefits are also perfect for any woman recovering from childbirth. EMS is proven to help increase pelvic floor strength, a key area of concern for postnatal women. It can also help with diastasis recti, the partial or complete separation
of the “six-pack” muscles, which is very common during and following pregnancy by quickly strengthening the abdominal muscles and closing any separation. In addition to the body-sculpting benefits of EMS, these short, timeefficient workouts can be an incredible advantage for busy new mums over traditional postnatal exercise options. The pandemic has heightened people’s awareness of the importance of health and physical activity and as a result we are seeing more people look for fitness solutions who would otherwise not have considered stepping into a gym. EMS has been thriving in the rest of Europe for many years with over 80 studios opening in Germany last year alone, and the UK is starting to follow suit – since lockdown the EMS market is developing at pace. With new players like Iron BodyFit and Feel Electric coming on board every month, the rise of EMS training is really just beginning. Across virtually every industry, business models are changing and forward-thinking operators and PTs are adopting new practices. miha bodytec’s I-body system has a small footprint and only needs a simple plug socket so it is perfectly suited to a health club looking to increase revenue by attracting new clientele, or for a personal trainer who wants to diversify their offering by catering to special populations. Workers plan to kickstart new fitness routine MORE people are set to swap working from home for a workout after a new survey found almost two-thirds of British employees surveyed (60 per cent) plan to kickstart a new fitness routine to coincide with the ‘great return’ to the workplace. New data from The Gym Group has revealed those returning to the workplace following the lifting of Plan B restrictions are keen to get back to the gym and form regular exercise habits. More than half of employees who exercise (59 per cent) also said that if their employer allows them to work flexibly each week, they will be more likely to stay active. The Gym Group, which operates more than 200 gyms, is setting out to help the nation get active by launching a new campaign called ‘Back To Work-Out’, which will give away free one-day passes every Monday throughout February. A group of keen commuters ready to get back to their workouts in part work, part fitness wear, were spotted on London Bridge supporting the initiative. TV medic Dr Chris George, who is backing the campaign to support people to take up regular exercise while they work more flexibly, said: “Kickstarting your week with a workout is as good for your mind, as it is for your body and this survey shows that more people are
motivated to get back to working out and start a new exercise routine as life begins to return to normal. “The last few years have been challenging for everyone, but we can now take back control of our lives and by taking small steps towards health and wellness goals will help to make us feel happier and healthier. “A Monday workout can help start your week in the right way which is why The Gym Group’s Back To Work-Out campaign is a great initiative in enabling more people across the country to access their fitness spaces.” The survey also found more than half (55 per cent) of those who exercise agree that kickstarting the working week with exercise on a Monday has a positive impact on the rest of the week. The biggest motivator for many of them to get active in 2022 is to improve their mental health with almost half (49 per cent) stating wellbeing as their personal motivational goal. This was followed by improving energy levels (37 per cent) and losing weight for a special occasion such as a wedding (34 per cent).
Eddie to host Burnley Active Community Awards ICONIC underdog Eddie ‘The Eagle’ Edwards is to host this year’s Burnley Active Community Awards, which will feature three new categories when they return to their traditional July date following last year’s disruption caused by the pandemic. The annual celebration (formerly known as the Burnley Community Sports Awards) pays tribute to those who show dedication at a range of sporting, health, and wellbeing activities at all levels, and those who work tirelessly to support individuals or community clubs, for the love of the sport or their community. Andrea Pollard, events and partnerships manager at Burnley Leisure and Culture, which organises the awards, said: “We invited Eddie to host because he personifies determination. “He never gave up and always had
his sights set on making his dreams a reality. “The success of the film back in 2016 really makes him well known to all our audience, young and old.
“He’s such a likeable character and his story of how he overcame adversity is relevant now more than ever after everything our communities have faced over the last 21 months.” Eddie captivated the nation with his exploits at the 1988 Winter Olympic Games in Calgary, Canada, where he came last in the 70m and 90m contests but won national admiration for his determination to overcome adversity and compete in the first place. He has since ridden the wave of public popularity by becoming a public speaker and media personality. He has appeared in nationwide advertising campaigns and has even had a film made about his life story that saw him become the first Briton to compete in Olympic ski jumping. This year’s ceremony will be held at the Burnley Mechanics Theatre on July 7.
