New £1.5m ‘boutique’ gym attracts 2,500 members in first few weeks A NEW £1.5m boutique gym with an industrial feel in Harrogate has attracted more than 2,500 members in its first few weeks of opening Coach Gym is the brainchild of former Xercise4Less COO Stuart Perrin and follows hot on the heels of the first site opening in Leeds at a cost of £1m in 2019 shortly before lockdown.

The Harrogate site also hosts the country’s first Surge Padel facility.

Padel tennis is one of the fastest growing sports in the country and the development seeks to put Harrogate at the epicentre of that surge in interest.

It’s the largest of its kind in the country with six courts and International Padel Federation is already considering it as the potential

host of its European Championships.

Stuart said: “I don’t like the phrase but I guess you would put Coach Gyms in the boutique health and fitness bracket.

“The gyms are the result of a long term goal of mine and I’ve spent many years in my previous jobs travelling around the world visiting facilities and taking photographs along the way.

“We’ve gone really tech heavy with the two gyms and we’re aiming to open 50 in the next five years.

“Our Leeds gym opened just a few days before the country was first put in lockdown and was then closed for more than a year, but we’ve hung in there and since reopening again things have been great and we’ve smashed all targets that we set.

Both sites boast more than 200 pieces of the latest equipment – including cardio, functional and free weights.

There are also four dedicated studios – one for spin classes, one for HiiT type classes, another for boxing and a final general one for other classes, with Les Mills as a key partner. The Harrogate site currently hosts more than 250 classes a month.

And with its nightclub feel and dimmed lighting, Stuart has made a concerted effort to target females between the ages of 23 and 45 years old.

They currently make up the large majority of the gym’s members.

“We’re not trying to be a gym where you would take a selfie for Instagram,” he added.

“But rather than being ladies-only or having a separate room in the gym where women can work out we’ve created a non-intimidating environment that’s soft in its approach and relaxed in terms of things such as communication, to ensure the best experience possible for the women who make this their choice.”

And despite being the cheapest gym in Harrogate, no expense has been spared when it comes to extras such as the changing rooms and the welcoming reception area that serves a variety of drinks in the day including protein shakes, coffees and snacks.

In the evening it is also licensed to serve alcohol. There is also a merchandise stand serving clothing, healthy snacks and Padel equipment.

Flood damage should be dealt with as soon as possible to prevent harm coming to your customers or to your business as a whole.

Additionally, if you’re able store it away securely, this is even better.

Disrupting gym hours As well as potentially causing harm to your equipment, there is the possibility that working hours could be affected should a flood take place.

In many scenarios, locations must be evacuated so that proper clean-up can be carried out.

This would mean that visitors will not be able to enter the premises until it has been declared safe to do so.

Contaminated water Coming into contact with flood water can be detrimental to your health, as it is frequently contaminated with sewage water and matter from the surrounding environment.

To ensure you are adhering to your health and safety obligations, you must act quickly to prevent staff and customers being exposed to this.

The building should only be re-entered once it is safe again to preserve the wellbeing of all parties.

Operator enhances personalised member journey with boditrax PARKWOOD Leisure, one of the UK’s leading leisure operators, has partnered with boditrax to launch its body composition analysis and activity tracking platform to a selection of its leisure centres.

The introduction of the new technology is part of Parkwood Leisure’s strategy to provide personalised experiences for its

members and facility users, through access to information to help inform health and wellbeing activities both in-centre and in the community.

Boditrax’s cloud-based health application provides medicalgrade body composition analysis, giving users a comprehensive understanding of physical composition, allowing them to set goals and track progress, either through the device in the gym, or remotely via the boditrax app.

The new partnership will see boditrax devices installed at an initial 15 sites, with more facilities to introduce the platform over the coming months as part of Parkwood Leisure’s centre investment plans.

“This is an exciting development for our centres and one that we believe will really enhance our members’ experiences,” said Alex Godfrey, Parkwood Leisure’s operations director.

“Boditrax will not only improve engagement with new and existing customers, but it will also support our local initiatives as part of our commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of our communities.

“We can see our customers are really enjoying using the technology purely from the number of scans and

targets that are being completed.”

“Since introducing boditrax, it’s become a key part of our member journey,” added Gary Sheppard, general manager at Parkwood Health and Fitness Salisbury.

“Not only is it supporting inductions,

but existing members are also engaging with it to develop or change their training programmes in-line with fitness goals. It’s easy to use and provides us with another way to personalise and enhance the experience for our members.”
