Former NHS leader Mike Farrar set to be new chair of ukactive from August MIKE Farrar has been named as the new chair of ukactive, with the former NHS leader set to take over from outgoing chair, Baroness Tanni GreyThompson, in August.

Mike has 13 years of CEO experience in the NHS and remains a prominent thought leader and advisor to the NHS and the wider healthcare sector.

He brings a wealth of knowledge to ukactive, having previously served as chair of the National Strategic Health Authority Chief Executive’s Group from 2002 to 2009; chief executive of the NHS Confederation from 2011 to 2013; vice and interim chair of Sport England between 2009 to 2012; and chair of Swim England from 2015 to 2020.

He said “I am honoured to be named the new chair of ukactive and cannot wait to get started in delivering on the ambitious plans I have seen to grow the sector’s impact and reach. There is huge synergy and opportunity here to develop our plans for supporting improvement in the nation’s health.

They are an integral element in our healthcare system and I will be committed to realising that vision.”

Mike’s appointment comes at a time when the physical activity sector is becoming far more integrated with the national health agenda, led by ukactive’s work to help reduce health inequalities and grow the scale and impact of its members.

In 2005, Mike was awarded the CBE for services to the NHS and is an honorary fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, the Royal College of Physicians, and of the University of Central Lancashire.

Throughout his career he has also been committed to supporting sports bodies and charitable foundations, including serving as chair of the

Amateur Swimming Association, a trustee of the Football League Trust, chair of the Rugby League Players Welfare Forum, and chair of Huddersfield Town and Huddersfield Giants Community Sports Trust.

Mike will take over from outgoing ukactive chair, Baroness Tanni GreyThompson, who is approaching the end of a six-year tenure. An 11-time gold medallist Paralympian and Peer in the House of Lords, Tanni was recently named as the new chair of Sport Wales, and in July last year was elected president of the Local Government Association.

Tanni will be sharing her reflections on her time as Chair and her hopes for the future of the sector at Active Uprising, which takes place in Birmingham on June 30.

2022 marks a new chapter for the governance of ukactive, with a new membership council now in place and a supplier council also set to be announced.

Mike will be soon be joined on the ukactive board by a number of new non-executive directors, which will be announced shortly.

Myzone rewards effort as official event partner MYZONE is the official event delivery partner to NFG FitGames London, which takes place on June 25 and 26.

Held at the NFG Dome, Myzone will track athletes’ heart rate and effort live on screen as they move through the workout zones – keeping every competitor motivated and pushing every step of the way.

Athlete entrants will be split into pairs or teams of four across three categories.

Each athlete will have to complete workout challenges across four zones, requiring them to demonstrate all-round fitness capabilities in strength, speed, power and endurance.

International naming protocol for acoustic and vibration products used in gyms REGUPOL acoustic and vibration products, used in sports facility projects are now covered by a new international naming convention.

Distributed in the UK by CMS Danskin Acoustics, REGUPOL products are specified worldwide for their noise and vibration reduction properties, chiefly in flooring applications, in construction sectors including sports flooring, residential schemes, hotels, education, health, auditoria, retail and industrial.

A sustainable product, REGUPOL is manufactured in Germany from recycled tyres. Typically, REGUPOL products consist of between 75 and 95 per cent recycled materials and they are fully recyclable. High profile installations in the UK include the Landmark Pinnacle L56 Gym completed last October.

Currently it is the highest gym in Europe on the 56th level of a residential/ commercial block. CMS Danskin Acoustics worked closely with the acoustic consultant to minimise the noise breakout from the gym.

The approach involved mounts for a sprung concrete floor and resilient underlays for the free weights area along with a REGUPOL final floor finish.

The newly named REGUPOL product portfolios, REGUPOL sonus core, REGUPOL sonus multi, REGUPOL sonus eco, REGUPOL sonus curve, REGUPOL sound, REGUPOL comfort, REGUFOAM vibration and REGUPOL sonusfit, include

multiple grades of material and can be used in multiple combinations for varied acoustic and anti-vibration applications.

The new uniform referencing across the world will make life easier for specifiers, said UK REGUPOL consultant Jamie Symons.

He added: “With unison between all product lines and all countries from June, sharing product data and test

reports internationally will be more straightforward.

“This synchronising initiative also reflects REGUPOL’s position today as a global market leader in acoustic and vibration solutions using recycled rubber.”

The new product names and updated product data are now available via CMS Danskin Acoustic’s website.
