Taiwan based manufacturer Circle Fitness continues its growth across Europe CIRCLE Fitness, one of Taiwan’s fastest growing and innovative fitness equipment manufacturers is continuing its growth across Europe. With a well-established distributor network covering most of the major markets, the Taichung based manufacturer is establishing relationships in some of the smaller, less mature territories. Producing a line of high quality, reliable cardiovascular products with multiple console options from the entry level LED through to the fully integrated television system on the Entertainment Plus series, Circle products are being seen in more and more markets. The latest product to launch is the E8 variable stride length elliptical, the first shipments of which left Taiwan in June and will increase the presence of Circle Fitness products on gym floors this time within the growing nontraditional cardio category. The E8 sits perfectly beside the ever-reliable E7 elliptical, offering users more choice and variety for their cardiovascular workouts. Circle Fitness was founded in 2007 following the purchase of AliLife, a well-known fitness and medical product manufacturer by P and F Brother, a leading high quality manufacturer of DIY power tools for the likes of Bosch. Circle Fitness was officially launched as a division of P and F Brother in 2010. In 2020 the company spun off from P and F Brother to become a standalone entity. Roger Chang, the company’s founder, is a lifelong
fitness advocate and wants to make wellness safer and more accessible to a wider population, such beliefs having become ever more important since the beginning of the global pandemic. These values underpin Circle’s use of the highest quality components to deliver: n Safety. n Durability.
n Optimum performance. Three key elements of Circle’s design process are: n Ease of access for the user. n Intuitive user interface on all consoles. n Easy and quick access to all areas for maintenance. Circle Fitness is represented in the UK and Ireland by Preston based Gym Gear. Duncan Black, Circle Fitness EMEA account manager, said: “Gym Gear has proven to be one of Circle Fitness’ most successful partners, with the family business, headed up by Roy Bullock, David Bullock and Richard Lambert maintaining a focus on excellent customer service whilst targeting a wide range of channels that has meant gymgear has come through the pandemic in a strong position to leverage new opportunities in the market.” Scandinavia has proven to be a strong market for Circle Fitness, with GymSport AS in Norway and Motion & Fitness Pro in Sweden leading the way. In the future Circle Fitness will be launching a completely new treadmill platform in both its heavy commercial and semi commercial lines. 2023 will see Circle Fitness have a strong presence on the global exhibition circuit, with strong presence planned for IHRSA in San Diego, TaiSPO and FIBO to fully support the growing distributor network. www.circlefitness.com

BPL wins marketing accolade at ukactive Awards
A MARKETING campaign to encourage new members through the doors of BPL’s Your Space fitness sites has been recognised with a prestigious fitness industry award. BPL’s What’s Your Space? picked up the Marketing Campaign award at the 2022 ukactive Awards. Working with award-winning design agency WPA Pinfold, the campaign encouraged new sign ups across BPL’s Your Space facilities in Barnsley, Bassetlaw, Mansfield and Pontefract. Using tools such as social media and digital advertising, the campaign asked ‘What’s Your Space?’ and showcased the many reasons existing customers enjoy using Your Space gyms. Highlighting to prospective
customers that it’s ‘Your Space to Feel Good’, it promoted the range of facilities available across Your Space sites – alongside a new member offer – encouraging them to sign up to see for themselves. In excess of 2,500 members signed up across the sites during the promotion – well exceeding targets for the campaign. The judges praised the campaign for being inclusive and were impressed with BPL’s ambition to break down preconceived ideas that their fitness facilities are only places for people who are already fit. Rachel Rinkavage, brand manager at BPL ,said: “This campaign was created using our members’ wide variety of profiles – from someone who wants to ‘have a giggle while you wiggle’ to one who wants to
‘take it steady and go with the flow’ – and the reasons why they love using Your Space facilities. “They told us Your Space was their place to feel good, where everyone is welcome and supported to achieve their goals. By sharing these stories through advertising and social media, we showed that our facilities are a place for everyone to enjoy and encouraged people in our local community to come along and try us out for themselves. “We were thrilled with the success of the campaign and are delighted to win this award.” The ukactive Awards, held in partnership with Active IQ, took place at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham, attended by leading figures from across the health and fitness industry.

It enables personal trainers and coaches to delve deep into the health status of their clients by accurately tracking variables such as stress, recovery, sleep, and physical activity. WORKOUT WEEKLY
This Girl Can, ukactive and CIMSPA team up to help sector workforce make their spaces safer SPORT England has announced an investment of nearly £500,000 for its award-winning This Girl Can campaign to provide resources and training to help leisure and fitness facilities ensure their spaces are safe and inclusive for all women. Announced at the recent ukactive Active Uprising conference in Birmingham, the project will see the sector joining forces on this key issue, with the three organisations working to develop and provide tools and support. This will enable women to feel assured and confident in the facilities they visit, and leisure sector workforce members to feel equipped to support women and prioritise their inclusion and safety, Research has found that many women cite personal safety concerns as one of the reasons they may be reluctant to be active in gyms and leisure centres, with two thirds of women who had attended a facility saying they had taken some measure to protect themselves from sexual harassment in a fitness or leisure centre. Steve Scales, director of membership and sector development for ukactive, said: “It is great to secure this additional investment into the fitness and leisure sector, to enable us to further support operators and providers with these very real concerns women have when entering facilities. “The work of this project will not only positively impact women and girls visiting facilities, but others too, as we continue to grow and draw people from more diverse backgrounds – becoming a fully inclusive environment for everyone to feel safe, empowered and comfortable while enjoying the benefits of being
active.” By improving feelings of safety and inclusion, This Girl Can, ukactive and CIMSPA hope to increase participation of women in leisure settings more broadly and therefore continue working towards closing the persistent gender gap in activity levels. As part of the project, funding will contribute to: n Partnering with safeguarding organisations and experts from both inside and outside the sector to bring on board their expertise. n Developing tools, training and best practice guidance to upskill the workforce on how to deal with issues relating to personal safety as well as providing the support to enable staff to also feel safer and more confident themselves. n The creation of sector-wide opportunities for leisure
facilities to deliver, with a core focus on supporting women to use weights areas within facilities and reduce feelings of intimidation. This work to deliver safer and more inclusive services follows last November’s joint publication of This Girl Can and ukactive’s guide to help fitness and leisure operators appeal to more women. Research shows that women are less likely to engage with sport and physical activity and the gender activity gap persists. The ‘How to improve your services for women and girls: As told by the 51 per cent’ guidance was based on extensive research and insight. This highlighted that many women cited personal safety concerns as one of the reasons they might be reluctant to be active in gyms and leisure centres. The guide has been downloaded more than 1,500 times by organisations within the fitness and leisure sector, with operators and providers already beginning to implement recommendations to help tackle this area of concern for women. Ali Donnelly, executive director of digital, marketing and communications at Sport England, added: “Safety and harassment fears often stop women from getting active, and these fears can undermine confidence to the point that many women are reluctant to use gyms and leisure centres. “Through This Girl Can we have learned a huge amount about how to help our partners make their facilities and spaces safe and welcoming for women, and this investment will provide significant support to the leisure and fitness sector to make improvements.”
