Dancer Molly swaps sun for sandwiches By Olivia Taylor

A HOLMFIRTH dancer has swapped sunshine for sandwiches after coming home from her first term at a prestigious Barcelona performing arts school. Molly Jowett, 19, from Netherthong returned to Birdie Butties Ltd where she works with her mum on Monday July 27 from Institute of The Arts Barcelona. Molly’s mum Karen said: “I’m so extremely proud of her, it’s lovely to have her back." Molly successfully gained a scholarship to the school after dancing her way through “Once Upon A Dream" in her audition.

She said: “Once I auditioned my heart was completely set on it, I was over the moon when I heard my name called, and I’ve really enjoyed my time out there, learning the language and the culture.” Molly is set to make a return to Barcelona this month to finish her scholarship, but her travelling won’t end there. The commercial performer has managed to dance her way to LA gaining yet another scholarship in Hollywood. She added: “At first I found it really hard, being away from my family and friends I was really home sick.” The ex Huddersfield

Molly Jowett New College pupil started her dancing journey at the age of five, after being inspired by her grandmother, and since she has gained a collection of national titles. She commented: “My grandma’s a dancer and I’ve always wanted to do what she does and now I am following in her foot-

steps. I just love watching her perform.” Despite all the struggles that come with being a dancer Molly finds the rewards outweigh the sacrifices. She said : “I train five times a week it’s hard and sometimes our teachers can even be strict on what we eat, but it’s worth it.” Molly’s dreams are centred around dancing with future hopes of teaching the art and travelling the world. She added: “I’d love to work on cruise ships dancing, I’d get to see the world for free and I’d be doing what I love. I’m still gob smacked at where I am, I’m still on cloud nine.”

As part of the Meltham Memories weekend a charity shop held a vintage Fashion Show and Sale in St Bartholomews church hall. Crossroads charity shop sold all clothes worn in the fashion show to their 100 attendees raising £700. Crossroads minutes secretary, Pam Murgatroyd said: “Lots of goods brought into the shop are from different eras and do not always sell in the shop, so a few months ago I came up with the idea of having a Fashion Show of 1940's to 1970's clothes and accessories to raise more funds.”
