Home given accolade for commitment

THE team at New Care’s Bramhall Manor care centre in Stockport has received a special Making a Difference award from the local NHS Foundation Trust. Personally delivered and presented by chief executive Karen James OBE as part of the Trust’s wider ‘Thank You February’ initiative, the certificate recognises the care home’s outstanding contribution and dedicated commitment during the Covid19 pandemic. She also gave them a selection of fresh fruit and cakes. Karen said: “The New Care team has worked successfully in partnership with us to provide positive outcomes for hundreds of patients over the last 12 months. “It has been an incredible partnership and one that we hope to continue to support the needs of those patients discharged from hospital who still require some transitional support prior to returning to their home.” Bramhall Manor is one of only a handful of local healthcare organisations to receive the award. Upon opening in March last year, it was commissioned in its entirety by Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, which also

runs Stepping Hill Hospital, NHS Stockport CCG and Stockport Council as part of a joint Borough-wide plan to respond to the pandemic. Over the last 12 months the team at the home has worked to help ease the pressure on the NHS in the locality by offering a solution to the shortfall of hospital beds by caring for those who are well enough to leave hospital but not quite able to care for themselves. The partnership has been instrumental in helping the local NHS deal with the increase in hospital admissions, both as a result of the pandemic and also during the recent busy winter months. Registered manager at Bramhall Manor, Sarah Lydon, added: “It was wonderful to receive the surprise visit from Karen and we are delighted to have been presented with a Make a Difference certificate. “The situation with the pandemic has not always been easy, but we have worked hand-in-hand with Stockport NHS Foundation Trust to ensure the delivery of a seamless care service for many residents before they return to their own homes after a hospital stay and are pleased that the project has been successful.”

Operator’s ‘thank you’ message

A Dorset care home resident who suffered a major stroke affecting her mobility has begun a cycle challenge in aid of a hospice charity. Despite being unable to walk, Molly Tarrant is aiming to ride 100 miles on her static physiotherapy bike, the equivalent distance from her care home to London. Ex-factory supervisor Molly has lived at Colten Care’s Bourne View home in Poole since just after her stroke more than two years ago. It left her with loss of movement in both her legs and her right arm. Since then, she has been carrying out daily exercises to rebuild her strength, regain muscle mass and help with overall rehabilitation. Molly is being coached on her bike ride by Bourne View Companionship Team members Paul Wookey and Brian Ramsey. Together they agreed to turn her daily exercise into a way of raising £1,000 for Poole-based charity Lewis-Manning Hospice Care.

SAINT Cecilia’s Care Group has unveiled its own thank you message to fellow care workers, the NHS and all keyworkers for their efforts in the fight against Covid-19. Marking the first anniversary of the pandemic, across all of its five centres in Scarborough and Pickering, the care group has added a thank you message to its own signs. It reads: ‘To the doctors, nurses, carers and all keyworkers we say a huge Thank You!’. Managing director Mike Padgham said: “We wanted to say a huge thank you to our own staff and also to all our fellow care workers and all the NHS staff and other keyworkers for an amazing year of selfless, compassionate and outstanding hard work,” he said. “All keyworkers in so many fields have put the care of others ahead of their own health and safety for a full year now and we owe them a debt of gratitude. “This is our way of spreading that message of thanks to all those who have done so much for the community.” The signs are clearly visible at Saint Cecilia’s Nursing Home on Filey Road, Saint Cecilia’s Care Home on Stepney Road, Normanby House on Belgrave Crescent and Saint Cecilia’s Day Care Centre at Eastway, Eastfield, all in Scarborough and at Alba Rose Care Home on Middleton Road, Pickering.
