A warm welcome to Wolverhampton Girls’ High School. I hope you find this guide full of useful information about our school and that it supports you and your daughter with the transition from primary to secondary school. We understand that this transition period can be both exciting and a little unnerving as your daughter steps out of her comfort zone. I’d like to take this opportunity to reassure you that here at Girls’ High we are committed to your daughter’s future and will provide every opportunity to support her to reach her true potential.
Our main aim at WGHS is to develop happy, confident and resilient young women. Our students work hard and flourish not just academically, but socially as well as emotionally. Our staff go above and beyond to support our students. We have an outstanding pastoral team, inspiring teachers and staff who care about our students, providing opportunities in all areas of school life for them to excel.
Alongside our high expectations are our core values - Care, Courtesy, Cooperation and Respect. These values underpin what we expect from our school community and ensure that upon leaving Girls’ High your daughter is ready for the wider world - happy, confident and resilient.
Best wishes

As a school our aim is to develop happy, confident and resilient young women. We look to ensure that students leave as independent and well-rounded young adults who can flourish beyond the classroom and into the wider community.
Our values drive the development of the whole person, in addition to the academic. Our values, teamed with a love of learning and experiences of life at WGHS prepare our students for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of future life.
Our girls are encouraged to develop skills for lifelong success in terms of understanding themselves as learners and developing as responsible citizens, demonstrating care and respect for all members of the community. We encourage each of our students to aim for their personal best.
Please refer to the Behaviour Policy on our website for the full list of expectations.
Starting at WGHS, I felt a flutter, with a mix of nerves and excitement. But I quickly adapted and soon enough, getting lost in the corridors was a thing of the past. I'm really proud of how I've settled in and look forward to continuing my WGHS journey in the years to come.
Anu -Year 7
Year 7 consists of six classes of 30 students. Your daughter will be assigned a teaching class and she will stay with the same cohort throughout Key Stage 3.
Each morning lessons begin at 9am, students should make their way to their first lesson ready to be seated by the teacher. Morning registration is taken during period 1. Key Stage 3 have their morning rec (break time) at 11am – this gives students the opportunity to meet with friends or grab a snack in between period 2 and 3.
Every day our students meet with their form tutor in their vertical form group, which includes students in the same house from Years 7-13. This is a wonderful way to get to know the older girls and get involved in fun House activities and competitions. The older girls are friendly and supportive towards their younger friends; offering enthusiastic advice and support, and your daughter will very quickly feel a sense of belonging.
Year 7 is the first time that your daughter will study different subjects with specialist teachers. Students study a broad range of subjects across the disciplines at Key Stage 3 and subjects are taught in teaching groups – we do not have ability sets at WGHS. The curriculum consists of the following: The core subjects are English, Maths, Science, History Geography, Religious Studies, two modern foreign languages from French, German, Spanish or Russian, together with Latin, Computer Science, Music, Physical Education, Performing Arts, PSHCE, Art and Design Technology. At the end of Year 8 students select to continue with two out of the three languages. More information on our curriculum can be found on our website.
Staff use a variety of teaching methods. Special emphasis is placed on active participation of students in lessons. They are encouraged to develop independence and to take responsibility for aspects of their studies.
Theory is supported by practice and a wide range of trips and visits into school by outside speakers are organised to support classroom study. Students’ work is valued and displayed around school. Departments are well-equipped with a range of modern textbooks, current IT software and other resources to enhance learning.
Your daughter’s first day is Wednesday 2nd September 2026. Please be at school by 8.50am.

Order Marks and Conduct Marks are used as a sanction for low level disruptive/unacceptable behaviour. Order Marks gain one Behaviour Point and Conduct Marks gain two Behaviour Points. Students accumulating four Behaviour Points are issued with a detention. Detentions take place after school on a Thursday, failure to attend a detention can result in further sanctions being issued.
As well as ensuring academic success we are serious about having fun and enjoying time at school. This is achieved through providing a variety of extra-curricular activities for students to engage in. Students will be informed of the Enrichment timetable at the beginning of term where they can attend a wealth of different clubs everyday during our social enrichment time at 1.05pm until 1.35pm.

Year 7 and Year 12 students will start the Autumn term on Wednesday 2 September with other year groups returning on Thursday 3 September. This allows our new starters the opportunity for a calmer first day that helps students settle in with confidence. They can familiarise themselves with the site, routines and expectations at a more relaxed pace, ask questions more freely and begin forming friendships with peers who are in the same position, ensuring a smoother transition before the full school community returns the following day.

WGHS operates on a cashless basis using an online payment system called Parent Pay to pay for school meals, music tuition, revision guides etc. This is a safe and convenient online method of payment using a debit/credit card or by bank transfer.
We also use Parent Pay for Parents/Carers to register permission for their daughter to attend events which are free of charge, such as sports fixtures.
All students will be issued with Parent Pay log in details.
When you first log in you will be asked to change these and create your own secure username and password for future use.
If you have two or more daughters at WGHS, you can merge their accounts once logged in.
Please make sure there is enough money on your daughter’s school meals account to cover the cost of her school lunch or break-time purchases. Cash is not accepted at till points.
There is no school meal booking system.
The price of the items that students buy at the school canteen are deducted from the funds on their school meals account.
Should you require any help with the Parent Pay system please contact the Finance Office by emailing accounts@wghs.org.uk
