U15’s Summer Cricket 2025—report by
Myia (Year 10)
On Tuesday 20th May WGHS U15’s cricket team 2025 participated in the Outdoor 8 -a-side competition. Throughout the day the team cheered each other on, was positive about every game, win or lose. We were all open to improving how we could play the next game as well as we could.
Our first game resulted in a narrow loss with 79 to 88 runs. After a team talk, we improved our strategies and technique and we were able to win our next 3 games.
As we won 3 out of the 4 of our games this meant we could play in the finals against Queen Mary’s A team. After getting to this stage and losing in the indoor competition in December, the team was determined to win this one. After some amazing batting and bowling we won this game meaning we advanced onto the County Finals. Since covid, this has been the first year one of WGHS’ teams have advanced to the County Finals.
On Tuesday 17th June the team attended the County Finals at Denstone College. After making it through to the next round the team was really excited to be there. The competition had started with approximately 50 teams in the U13’s and U15’ s age category in the first round, we were now one of 5 teams in our age group.
We won our first 2 games and we lost our next 2 games meaning we didn’t advance to the Regional Finals. The team cheered each other on in all 4 games we played that day. Our cricket skills had improved so much from December when we had first started playing as a team but our sporting conduct was just as amazing as it was before.

A huge well done to Year 8 student Charlotte . She has taken part in the Cannock Chase Dance Festival and has placed first for her contemporary piece. Congratulations Charlotte!
