We have had a busy few weeks at WGHS The week back after half term saw our Year 13 students sit their mock examinations These assessments form an important part of their journey towards final exams, providing a valuable opportunity to consolidate learning, identify strengths, and highlight areas where further support may be needed. Well done to them on all their hard work.
Monday 10th and Tuesday 11th November saw us host our Careers Morning and Careers Afternoon, during which students had the opportunity to hear from a wide range of speakers representing businesses, apprenticeships, universities and colleges From insights into starting a business to exploring higher education pathways, and from roles within the local council to careers in the RAF, students gained invaluable guidance to support their future career choices. They also took part in classroom-based activities covering topics such as employment opportunities in Wolverhampton and the impact of the gender pay gap. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our wonderful presenters for making these two days both informative and inspiring.
Next Thursday we will be hosting our Sixth Form Open Evening We hope as many Year 11 students and their families as possible can join us The evening is the opportunity to gather insights into what life is like in Sixth Form and what we can offer for your post 16 studies. Instrumental Music Lessons Spring Term 2025-2026
Parents/Carers who have applied for music lessons for the Spring Term 2025-26, should have received information about their daughter’s provisional music lesson allocation.
To secure your daughter’s space, please remember to make payment for lessons for the Spring Term 2025 via Parentpay, by Sunday 30th November 2025.
If you are having trouble logging into ParentPay or are experiencing difficulties making the payment, please contact our Finance Department at accounts@wghs.org.uk.
Please note: If payment is not received by 30th November, we will assume that you no longer wish your daughter to take up the lessons, and the place will be offered to another student.
Online Safety Notice for Parents
We have been made aware that some of our students may be familiar with an app known as Polybuzz. It is an AI Chatbot, but its content is absolutely NOT appropriate for under 18s. Please keep an eye out for it on your children's devices and, also take action if you think they are talking about it.
Please be aware that this can be accessed through your internet browser. We recommend that you regularly check your Daughter's devices.

Road Safety Notice
Please can we bring to your attention that new traffic measures have been introduced on the main road, including a pedestrian refuge and upgraded pedestrian crossing.
We kindly ask for your support in reinforcing safe behaviours with your child. Wherever possible, please encourage them to use the designated pedestrian crossing rather than crossing between parked vehicles or near the coach drop-off area. Crossing away from the marked crossing points puts students at unnecessary risk, particularly during busy periods
We also need to remind parents not to drive down the school drive to drop students off, even if you are running late or it is raining. Vehicles entering the driveway at busy times create congestion, block essential access and, most importantly, pose a significant safety risk. Cars often arrive at speed and then turn in areas where students are walking, which increases the likelihood of an accident.
Your cooperation in modelling safe behaviour using the crossing yourself, avoiding signalling children to cross elsewhere, and reminding them to wait for a clear, safe moment—helps us maintain a safer environment for all members of our school community.

Elevate Education
31 parents/carers from WGHS attended the Elevate Education Webinar on Memory on Tuesday 18 November. The next Webinar in the series will focus on resilience. Elevate will be advising parents/carers on how they can help their child to bounce back from setbacks and maintain a positive approach to their studies.

Orange Wolverhampton is our city's contribution to the United Nation’s annual Orange The World campaign - 16 days of action to end violence against women and girls (VAWG) between 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) and 10 December (UN Human Rights Day).
Individuals and organisations across the city, including faith groups, sports clubs, schools, community organisations, charities, businesses of all sizes, and large public sector organisations are encouraged to "Orange Wolverhampton".
Our support for this campaign will include:
Year 7 will produce campaign material during Citizenship Day- Orange ribbons
A display board will be created highlighting the campaign
Students will be encouraged to wear an orange accessory/ orange ribbon
PSHCE lessons for Year 8-13 will have sessions focusing on Orange Wolverhampton

Nyah braves Storm Claudia to support homelessness in Wolverhampton
A huge well done to Year 9 student Nyah (Paget), who last Friday took on the Molineux Sleepout challenge. Even with the treacherous weather conditions she literally braved the storm and through her efforts managed to raise £300 to help support homelessness in the city. Much to her credit she also had a netball match at 9am on the Saturday morning. Despite sleeping rough she got up at 6am and played a full match only a couple of hours after the fundraising event. Her family are extremely proud of her, as are we at WGHScongratulations Nyah!
Simran included in The Guardian
Congratulations to Year 7, Paget student, Simran who has been included in this year ’ s gift guide in The Guardian - "The best UK Christmas Gifts for 11 year olds picked by 11 year olds!" Simran applied to enter into this years gift guide, and got selected from over 2,000 others and worked together with the journalist. Simran was also included in an online article alongside her Mom who featured in the Me and My Money Metro Series. Simran was mentioned for her entrepreneurial spirit, having set up a jewellery making business when she was just 8 years old. Well done Simran!
Careers
Each month we will be showcasing how what our students are learning in their various subjects can link to future career opportunities.We are keen to ensure that all students understand the relevance of their learning to the world of work.We hope this inspires them to explore a variety of career paths in their next steps.
Careers in Geography
As part of their learning about ‘Why study Geography?’, our Year 7 Geographers have recently enjoyed a lesson which explored a range of careers that use geographical knowledge and skills. The class began by discussing what geography is and considered the skills of a good geographer.
Students learned that geography is not just about maps and countries, but also about problem-solving, research, communication, and using data to make informed decisions. The lesson highlighted how geographers help tackle global challenges such as climate change, urbanisation, resource management, and sustainability.
Through examples and activities, students discovered different geography-related careers, including:
Environmental Consultant – helping organisations reduce their environmental impact Urban Planner – designing towns and cities for the future
GIS Specialist – using digital mapping and spatial data
Teacher – sharing geographical knowledge and developing new insights
The class discussed the skills geographers develop critical thinking, teamwork, data analysis, and global awareness and how these are valuable in many other careers too.
By the end of the lesson, students reflected on their own interests and how geography could play a role in their future studies and job choices.

Careers in Politics
Our Year 12 Politics students are currently exploring the inner workings of the UK Parliament, perfect timing for them to get involved in the UK’s upcoming Parliament Week. This week, students have been researching the different stages that a bill goes through before it finally becomes a law and they have been delivering presentations to each other based on what they have found. Public speaking and debating is a critical skill for our MPs so it’s only right that our Politics students master these skills too.
Students have also looked at how MPs and Civil Servants work together to produce effective policies, with MPs providing the brief and political will and the Civil Servants providing the expertise to make it a reality. This led into a great discussion on where our studies of Politics might take us:
MP or Party Politics: The obvious link, getting involved in the political process themselves and applying what they’ve learned literally.
The Civil Service: Potentially working in government departments to help develop and implement services and policies.
Policy and Research: We discussed thinktanks and analyst roles where the ability to process lots of information, find patterns and then get the information to the right people is essential.
Journalism: The student presentations were clear and effective and some of our Year 12s would succeed in the world of journalism, bringing political events to life in understandable and relatable ways.
Overall, our Politics students have realised that they are not just developing knowledge about our political system. They are gaining valuable skills of research, public speaking, analysis and essay writing which will translate to a range of careers later on.

Welcome back to all of our students after a very spooky half term. I hope you had a restful time full of relaxation - and hopefully, reading!
We had a very exciting event taking place in the Library... the Book Fair! There were dozens of books to browse, from new and popular Young Adult releases, to republications of children's classics, to GCSE English revision books and flashcards. Every book sold means tokens earned for our school - the more tokens we have, the more books the Library can get for free!
If your child missed the Book Fair this month, don't worry- there will be another one coming our way in March for World Book Day. Stay tuned!
We're now halfway through November, so let's look at some stats:
As of 13th November, we ' ve had 188 books taken out of the Library.
We've unfortunately seen an increase in late books thanks to the half term break. Please encourage your children to check around for any overdue books, and to return them to the Library as soon as they can!
Our most popular book so far has been Powerful by Lauren Roberts.
My Star Library Borrower for the first half of November is... Testimony from Stafford House! ⭐
So far, our eLibrary has had 118 loans total this month. Audiobooks are continuing to grow in popularity. I personally recommend reading a book whilst listening to the audiobook at the same time!
Our most popular book on eLibrary so far has been Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.

As you will know, Jamaica has just suffered its most catastrophic hurricane with over 80% of the Island being left without electricity, housing, food and water. We have been made aware of 2 community disaster relief donation centres within Wolverhampton should anyone wish to contribute.

Former England Rose and current NSL coach, Laura Malcolm, is launching Maiais Netball 360 Programme in the West Midlands. This is an exciting opportunity for netballers to get involved in a new, high-quality netball development programme. Maias Netball 360 Programme is a holistic, player-centred experience designed to develop athletes both on and off the court.
The programme includes:
Focused skill and gameplay development
Confidence and decision-making training
Personalised coaching and progression pathways
It begins with a trial in December (formatted as a positional masterclass), followed by a structured 7-week development block starting in January.
