A Message from our Headteacher I would like to warmly welcome all our students and families back to school and wish you a happy and successful new year. The Spring Term offers a fresh opportunity to build on our achievements, to set ambitious goals and to approach learning with renewed focus and enthusiasm. I am always proud of the dedication, resilience and kindness shown by our school community, and I encourage every student to embrace the challenges ahead with confidence and curiosity. Our Year 11 students are half way through their GCSE mocks. I have been really impressed with their attitude and commitment during the assessment period - we wish them the very best of luck with their remaining exams. Culture Day will be celebrated in school on Thursday 29th January. Preparations are well underway for this year’s event. It is fantastic to see so many different cultures celebrated in school through food, clothing and dances. We look forward to sharing photos of the event in our next E-Bulletin. Best Wishes Mrs Young

Enrichment Focus Intermediate Strings
Intermediate Strings is a vibrant and inspiring opportunity for students to develop their musical skills beyond the classroom. Designed for students who already play a string instrument, the club focuses on building confidence, improving technique and exploring a wide range of exciting repertoire in a supportive and collaborative environment. Students enjoy the chance to rehearse together, refine ensemble skills and challenge themselves musically while sharing their passion with like-minded peers. If your daughter plays a string instrument and is interested in joining the club it takes place every Wednesday during enrichment time in the PA.

Careers English & Creative Careers Fortnight (23rd Feb – 6th March) Our inaugural Creative Careers Fortnight will show students how the skills developed in English – critical thinking, creativity, communication, analysis and storytelling – lead directly into a wide range of exciting future pathways. The fortnight has been planned by the Director of English and Performing Arts in direct response to student feedback requesting more careers education focused on creative fields. Across the two weeks, students will engage with over 25 different events, including: a pre-recorded talk from a former WGHS student now studying English at university; live sessions with two authors; an academic; a journalist; a museum curator; and a freelance filmmaker/editor. Universities, a film school and a game design school will also be visiting to talk about creative degrees and careers. These experiences explicitly link curriculum learning in English to real-world industries such as publishing, journalism, academia, marketing, heritage, film, media and the games industry, helping students to see how reading, writing and analysis translate into exciting and viable future careers.
