E-BULLETIN Friday 11 September 2026
The fortnightly newsletter of Wolverhampton Girls' High School
A Message from our Headteacher It has been wonderful to welcome our students back to Girls’ High for the start of a new academic year. The school has once again come alive with energy, enthusiasm and plenty of smiling faces! A new school year brings fresh opportunities – new friendships, new challenges, new experiences and, for some of our students, an exciting new chapter. Whether your daughter is joining us for the first time or returning to continue her Girls’ High journey, I hope she feels a strong sense of belonging and excitement about all that lies ahead. In our first assembly, I launched a whole school challenge, ‘Run for Her.’ Our girls are encouraged to take on the challenge of running 5k by Christmas or improving their time if they are already able to do this. This is a whole school community event. As Wolverhampton Girls’ High we are running for Wolverhampton girls across our city by raising money for The Haven. Activities in PE lessons will support the girls to build their fitness. This offers a great way for our girls to develop determination, resilience and commitment while looking after their wellbeing and raising money for our community. Look out for more information over the coming weeks. Over the summer, we also welcomed the installation of our new heating system, an important investment in our school buildings and the comfort of our students and staff. Some associated works are still being completed, so there may be some ongoing activity around school over the coming weeks. We appreciate everyone's patience while these final works are carried out. One of the highlights of the Girls’ High calendar is just around the corner – House Arts! This year, our four Houses will take us ‘In the Woods’ for what promises to be a fantastic showcase of creativity, talent and teamwork. Our House Captains have been working tirelessly alongside their performers and House teams to bring their ideas to life, and we can’t wait to see what they have in store. Tickets go on sale from Monday 21 September via School Box Office. Make sure you get yours and come along to support our students as they take to the stage! Our school community is at its best when we work together, and I am grateful for the continued support of our families. There is so much to look forward to this year, both in and beyond the classroom, and I look forward to sharing those experiences with you through our E-Bulletins and wider school communications. Here’s to a happy, successful and memorable year ahead – one filled with opportunities to learn, grow, challenge ourselves and thrive. Best Wishes Mrs Young

Grand Performance for Gabriella Congratulations to Year 8 student Gabriella (Audley) who has been chosen to perform with the English Youth Ballet in a production of Swan Lake at the Grand Theatre this October. She has worked extremely hard and everyone at WGHS sends huge congratulations for being selected from a very competitive audition process. Well done Gabriella! We look forward to hearing how the performance goes in October.
Year 13 students successfully complete pilot over the summer This summer 8 of our Year 12 students successfully completed the Understanding Money, Markets and Risk course that was piloted to 30 UK schools. 2 of our students went on an exciting two-day work experience programme at the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG). During the summer, I was fortunate enough to attend work experience at the London Stock Exchange Group’s offices in London. This was possible through a financial literacy course I completed at school as participants were told there was the potential to be offered a place on the work experience. During the two days, I was able to hear from various speakers and panels regarding AI usage in the finance sector, particularly in regards to its impact on jobs. It was good to hear that AI isn’t actually taking away jobs but more so changing the skillset for the job. Many jobs now don’t require you to be able to lots of detailed research, instead we were told to focus on developing our critical thinking skills and were taught to use AI as a tool to challenge rather than blindly follow. We also got to hear more about what LSEG does in terms of supporting companies, particularly AIM-listed companies, in getting to IPO. This is essentially the first time a company’s shares can be publicly trade on the stock exchange instead of being privately owned by founders. It was also really interesting to see the LSEG workspace, which is their in-house system built for finance professionals to see the value of shares on various stock exchanges, changes to index values and current news issues that may impact share prices. The AI interface allows people to efficiently complete research from over 10,000 different news sources with the click of a button, which is a more positive impact of AI. I was also fortunate enough to be able to network with many senior professionals and directly ask them questions about what their job requires, technical questions regarding markets, AI usage and much more. I was even lucky enough to be able to have a phone call with Hayley Palmer, who is a Director of Equity Research at Canaccord Genuity. This allowed me to develop my confidence in speaking about the industry and to be curious and develop my own communication skills. (Sukhmani, Paget)
