Notify County Agencies About Special Needs Registry is used for resource planning during emergencies

A

ccording to Chapter 252.355 Florida Statutes, “In order to meet the special needs of persons who would need assistance during evacuations and sheltering because of physical, mental or sensory disabilities, each local emergency management agency in the state shall maintain a registry of persons with special needs located within the jurisdiction of the local agency.”

The Special Needs Registry Shelter Program is designed to provide hurricane or disaster related evacuation assistance and care for those without other alternatives. If you need transportation assistance or have a health/ medical condition that requires medical attention while at a shelter, you should register for this program. If you are a client of a hospice or home health care agency, you should ensure that they have already registered you into the system. This registration helps the local emergency management agency identify those in need of assistance and plan for resource allocation to meet those needs.

WFEC Celebrates Lineman

D

id you drink a nice, hot cup of coffee this morning? Take a hot shower? Flip a light switch and see the lights came on? These are all conveniences we each take for granted on a daily basis. The Engineering & Operations Department at WFEC - from mechanics to purchasing and warehousing agents, to engineers, metering personnel and linemen all play an integral part in making sure you enjoy those conveniences we all view as necessities in today's society. 94128001 WFEC recognized these employees and linemen who work an often thankless job on April 11 with a luncheon. Along with other co-ops across the nation, WFEC takes the time each April to recognize the contributions each of these employees makes to our communities.

"Linemen are the backbone of our company and we were so pleased to recognize and honor them," said Ty Peel, EVP & CEO. The linemen and other employees view their chosen profession as much more than a job - it is a calling and a responsibility to the cooperative's members and all of the communities served by the cooperative, according to Doyle Short, Manager, Construction & Operations. Peel says all of the employees at WFEC take their jobs to heart and want to serve the co-op's membership.

"It's what a linemen loves to do - help. I've been a lineman for 31 years and the passion is wearing off a little after the storm, but it's still very fulfilling," said Will Melton, Line Crew Leader in an interview with WTVY's reporter, Aybrial Beckham.

"A hero is defined as one who demonstrates courage by Webster's Dictionary and that's what our linemen are," said Peel.

After the devastation left behind

Co-op's 82nd Annual Meeting Held

T

he cooperative’s 82nd Annual Meeting/Member Appreciation Day was held Saturday, April 27. Attendees were greeted by a large American flag displayed between two bucket trucks when they entered the grounds of the Graceville Civic Center. Booths ranging from health screenings to wood turning, quilting, face painting and more were set up for members to visit. The co-op also provided valuable information about services available to members including outage texting, surge protection and the mobile app which allows members to update account information, pay bills and more using their phone or tablet. Musical entertainment was provided by The Cedar Creek Band of Chipley and co-op employees served popcorn and snow cones for the crowd to enjoy while listening to their bluegrass sound.

The meeting started with a prayer, the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem and the colors were presented by Vernon High School JROTC students. During the course of the business meeting the results of this year’s District 2 election were announced to the members present at the meeting. According to Carr, Riggs & Ingram, the certified public accounting firm who conducted and oversaw WFEC’s mail ballot procedure, Tim Alford received 2,336 votes and Howard Hodge Jr.

“A defining moment is a point in our lives that fundamentally changes us and has a transformative effect on our perceptions and behaviors,” said Peel.

He went on to speak about many defining moments in his own life including October 10, 2018 – the day Hurricane Michael hit our communities. He said he couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw the damage the storm caused.

He recounted a few things that transpired during the days power restoration was taking place including how three tent sites were utilized to accommodate the over 1,600 additional contractors and co-op employees who came to assist WFEC with power restoration.

“The best thing you can possibly see coming to your facility after a hurricane is men and women with bucket trucks anxious to work and help with power restoration. Nothing is as pretty as that sight.

WFEC Celebrates Lineman

D

id you drink a nice, hot cup of coffee this morning? Take a hot shower? Flip a light switch and see the lights came on? These are all conveniences we each take for granted on a daily basis. The Engineering & Operations Department at WFEC - from mechanics to purchasing and warehousing agents, to engineers, metering personnel and linemen all play an integral part in making sure you enjoy those conveniences we all view as necessities in today's society. 94128001 WFEC recognized these employees and linemen who work an often thankless job on April 11 with a luncheon. Along with other co-ops across the nation, WFEC takes the time each April to recognize the contributions each of these employees makes to our communities.

"Linemen are the backbone of our company and we were so pleased to recognize and honor them," said Ty Peel, EVP & CEO. The linemen and other employees view their chosen profession as much more than a job - it is a calling and a responsibility to the cooperative's members and all of the communities served by the cooperative, according to Doyle Short, Manager, Construction & Operations. Peel says all of the employees at WFEC take their jobs to heart and want to serve the co-op's membership.

"It's what a linemen loves to do - help. I've been a lineman for 31 years and the passion is wearing off a little after the storm, but it's still very fulfilling," said Will Melton, Line Crew Leader in an interview with WTVY's reporter, Aybrial Beckham.

"A hero is defined as one who demonstrates courage by Webster's Dictionary and that's what our linemen are," said Peel.

Notify County Agencies About Special Needs Registry is used for resource planning during emergencies

ccording to Chapter 252.355 Florida Statutes, “In order to meet the special needs of persons who would need assistance during evacuations and sheltering because of physical, mental or sensory disabilities, each local emergency management agency in the state shall maintain a registry of persons with special needs located within the jurisdiction of the local agency.”

The Special Needs Registry Shelter Program is designed to provide hurricane or disaster related evacuation assistance and care for those without other alternatives. If you need transportation assistance or have a health/ medical condition that requires medical attention while at a shelter, you should register for this program. If you are a client of a hospice or home health care agency, you should ensure that they have already registered you into the system. This registration helps the local emergency management agency identify those in need of assistance and plan for resource allocation to meet those needs.
