Tatum Appointed to Board of Trustees

Y

our West Florida Board of Trustees has appointed David Tatum of Altha, Florida, to fill the District 1 Board of Trustees seat left vacant by the passing of long-time trustee, Mr. Ellis Nichols. Mr. Tatum has been a West Florida Electric member, living in District 1, for 30 years.

Mr. Tatum’s career in public service began in 1979. He served three terms as Sheriff of Calhoun County and retired in 2013 after 33 years of public service. 81993002 During his career, Mr. Tatum attended hundreds of hours of administrative training, public safety training, risk management, career development David Tatum and continuing education classes. He also served two terms on the Florida Sheriffs Association Board of Directors and the Calhoun County Senior Citizens Association Board of Directors. He has also served two terms on the Panhandle Pioneer Settlement, Inc. Board of Directors and is an Ordained Deacon at Altha First Baptist Church. He is a lifetime member of the Florida Sheriffs Association, a non-profit that provides support and training to all 67 sheriffs and their staff in the State of Florida.

Since his retirement in 2013, most of his time has been spent on service projects doing construction. He says that he enjoys all aspects of building and mixes that with his desire to serve others. In 2015, he began offering guided quail hunts with his German Shorthaired Pointers. He also enjoys woodworking and sometimes makes furniture and cabinets for the service projects in which he is involved.

He is the son of Newton and Kathryn Tatum and has been married to Lori (Carpenter) Tatum, the daughter of Alton and Connie Carpenter, continued page 4

81st Annual Meeting/Member Appreciation Day

Phaneuf Joins PowerSouth's Economic Development Team

he cooperative's 81st Annual Meeting/Member Appreciation Day was held Saturday, April 28. Crowds were greeted by a large American flag displayed between two bucket trucks when they entered the civic center grounds. Booths ranging from glucose and cholesterol testing to wood turning were set up for members to visit. The co-op also provided valuable information about services for members including outage texting, surge protection and the new mobile app which allows members to pay their bill, update their account Members were able to have their glucose & cholesterol tested information and more on their phone or tablet.

Musical entertainment was provided by The Cedar Creek Band and co-op employees served popcorn and snow cones for the crowd to enjoy while listening to their bluegrass sound. 86852002 The meeting started with a prayer, the Pledge of Allegience and National Anthem and the colors were presented by Chipley High School ROTC students. Mike Bjorklund, Executive Vice President & General Manager of the Florida Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (FECA)was the guest speaker at the event. He explained the role FECA plays on behalf of co-ops like WFEC - specifically how they represent the co-op's interests in Tallahassee and Washington, D.C. and how they coordinate crews to help restore power and provide other assistance during storm restoration.

Russell Dunaway, WFEC EVP & CEO, spoke about the importance of the job the linemen of the cooperative perform on a daily basis. He emphasized the importance of their safety while restoring power and spoke about the training necessary to become a lineman. During his remarks, he recognized Clark Feltman, a recent graduate of Southeast Lineman Training Center (SLTC) in Trenton, Georgia. Clark was ranked first in his class at SLTC over 202 other students. He also received the SLIM award at SLTC. Read more about Clark and his awards in next month's issue of the Current Light Flashes.

carlett Phaneuf (photo on page 6) recently joined PowerSouth’s economic development staff as Economic Development Representative for Florida.

Phaneuf works with West Florida Electric Cooperative and three other distribution members in the Florida Panhandle, as well as state and local agencies, to recruit new companies and works with existing industry to facilitate business and economic growth in the region. Her responsibilities also include targeting specific business sectors to market PowerSouth’s 10-county Florida service territory both nationally and internationally.

“My major goal is to help improve the quality of life in Northwest Florida by working to add good jobs and industry to our local economy. What our rural areas need most is a variety of quality jobs in different industries to generate more income for our residents and create opportunities to retain our young people,” said Phaneuf.

Before joining the PowerSouth staff, Joe Rone, President, Board of Trustees Phaneuf served as Vice President of the Bay Economic Development Alliance and is the former Executive Director of the Walton County Economic Development Alliance.

She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture from the University of Florida. She said that, because of this background, she enjoys helping relocating and expanding companies with their unique facility needs.

Last year, she was recognized with the Dan Webster Young Innovator Award from the Florida High Tech Russell Dunaway, EVP & CEO Corridor in partnership with the Florida Economic Development Council. In January, she was recognized by Developers Counsellors International as a member of its “40 under 40” Class of 2017.

A northwest Florida native, Phaneuf is passionate about the region.

She will be integrally involved with partner organizations like Florida’s Great Northwest in helping move the area forward through economic

81st Annual Meeting/Member Appreciation Day

Phaneuf Joins PowerSouth's Economic Development Team

he cooperative's 81st Annual Meeting/Member Appreciation Day was held Saturday, April 28. Crowds were greeted by a large American flag displayed between two bucket trucks when they entered the civic center grounds. Booths ranging from glucose and cholesterol testing to wood turning were set up for members to visit. The co-op also provided valuable information about services for members including outage texting, surge protection and the new mobile app which allows members to pay their bill, update their account Members were able to have their glucose & cholesterol tested information and more on their phone or tablet.

Musical entertainment was provided by The Cedar Creek Band and co-op employees served popcorn and snow cones for the crowd to enjoy while listening to their bluegrass sound. 86852002 The meeting started with a prayer, the Pledge of Allegience and National Anthem and the colors were presented by Chipley High School ROTC students. Mike Bjorklund, Executive Vice President & General Manager of the Florida Rural Electric Cooperatives Association (FECA)was the guest speaker at the event. He explained the role FECA plays on behalf of co-ops like WFEC - specifically how they represent the co-op's interests in Tallahassee and Washington, D.C. and how they coordinate crews to help restore power and provide other assistance during storm restoration.

Russell Dunaway, WFEC EVP & CEO, spoke about the importance of the job the linemen of the cooperative perform on a daily basis. He emphasized the importance of their safety while restoring power and spoke about the training necessary to become a lineman. During his remarks, he recognized Clark Feltman, a recent graduate of Southeast Lineman Training Center (SLTC) in Trenton, Georgia. Clark was ranked first in his class at SLTC over 202 other students. He also received the SLIM award at SLTC. Read more about Clark and his awards in next month's issue of the Current Light Flashes.

carlett Phaneuf (photo on page 6) recently joined PowerSouth’s economic development staff as Economic Development Representative for Florida.

Phaneuf works with West Florida Electric Cooperative and three other distribution members in the Florida Panhandle, as well as state and local agencies, to recruit new companies and works with existing industry to facilitate business and economic growth in the region. Her responsibilities also include targeting specific business sectors to market PowerSouth’s 10-county Florida service territory both nationally and internationally.

“My major goal is to help improve the quality of life in Northwest Florida by working to add good jobs and industry to our local economy. What our rural areas need most is a variety of quality jobs in different industries to generate more income for our residents and create opportunities to retain our young people,” said Phaneuf.

Before joining the PowerSouth staff, Joe Rone, President, Board of Trustees Phaneuf served as Vice President of the Bay Economic Development Alliance and is the former Executive Director of the Walton County Economic Development Alliance.

She earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in architecture from the University of Florida. She said that, because of this background, she enjoys helping relocating and expanding companies with their unique facility needs.

Last year, she was recognized with the Dan Webster Young Innovator Award from the Florida High Tech Russell Dunaway, EVP & CEO Corridor in partnership with the Florida Economic Development Council. In January, she was recognized by Developers Counsellors International as a member of its “40 under 40” Class of 2017.

A northwest Florida native, Phaneuf is passionate about the region.

She will be integrally involved with partner organizations like Florida’s Great Northwest in helping move the area forward through economic

Tatum Appointed to Board of Trustees

Y

our West Florida Board of Trustees has appointed David Tatum of Altha, Florida, to fill the District 1 Board of Trustees seat left vacant by the passing of long-time trustee, Mr. Ellis Nichols. Mr. Tatum has been a West Florida Electric member, living in District 1, for 30 years.

Mr. Tatum’s career in public service began in 1979. He served three terms as Sheriff of Calhoun County and retired in 2013 after 33 years of public service. 81993002 During his career, Mr. Tatum attended hundreds of hours of administrative training, public safety training, risk management, career development David Tatum and continuing education classes. He also served two terms on the Florida Sheriffs Association Board of Directors and the Calhoun County Senior Citizens Association Board of Directors. He has also served two terms on the Panhandle Pioneer Settlement, Inc. Board of Directors and is an Ordained Deacon at Altha First Baptist Church. He is a lifetime member of the Florida Sheriffs Association, a non-profit that provides support and training to all 67 sheriffs and their staff in the State of Florida.

Since his retirement in 2013, most of his time has been spent on service projects doing construction. He says that he enjoys all aspects of building and mixes that with his desire to serve others. In 2015, he began offering guided quail hunts with his German Shorthaired Pointers. He also enjoys woodworking and sometimes makes furniture and cabinets for the service projects in which he is involved.

He is the son of Newton and Kathryn Tatum and has been married to Lori (Carpenter) Tatum, the daughter of Alton and Connie Carpenter, continued page 4
